I had low platelet and high WBC...I had HELLP syndrome and lots of things going on. Did your OB tell you this?
Theyre trying to figure out what it is.
My WBC is 15. Was 12. SO it rose over a few months.
My platelets are 60,000 and sometimes go up to 120,000, but the doc says I have ITP. And frankly, my count is pretty good, and I don't have any problems because of it.
But with the WBC I think they're concerned... So I had some bloodwork done to look for evidence of chronic leukemias and it all turned up normal.
Now they're thinking of doing a bone marrow (atleast one hematologist is, he was awful and treated me like crap so I am taking everything he said with a grain of salt) I've got a new hematologist I am seeing soon.
But I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this. My OB feels my WBC elevation could be due to the pregnancy, since pregnancy can induce leukocytosis (high wbc) as WELL as low platelets. Tho I did have low platelets before pregnancy.
I must say I've been really scared, but I am wondering how much of it isn't just pregnancy related, since all my other bloods are normal.
ME! I had HELLP. My platelet levels fluctuated between 80,000 and 110,000 while I was on hospital bedrest for a week. They would not perform a c-section because the platelets got so low. Thankfully they went up (to around 95,000) on delivery day and I could get an epidural. After being induced at 31w6d I was sent to a hematologist. My platelet level did not go up right away after delivery, but 6 weeks later was at 120,000. I didn't go back for the follow-up bloodwork (I had a baby in the nicu and was overwhelmed) but the hematologist seemed okay with it at 120,000.
I am realizing as I type that this isn't helping you...but this was my experience. Good luck!
What are other signs of HELLP? Otherwise my blood work is perfect, blood pressure is normal, everything else great..urine tests always come back good, glucosa test was great...etc
Im not pregnant yet- a little nervous to get pregnant because I have found out I have platelets that seem to stay low -
(between 70k and 120k most the time- the lowest they ever got was like 30 or 40)...
I know with HELLP you also have to have high liver enzymes on your blood work- I have seen this in a few pregnant women and they did not have the low platelets before pregnancy- (Im at nurse at a hospital so thats how I knew about HELLP)...
Anyways- I have ITP, so I have been told- and I would like to eventually have a baby but it does nake me a little crazy when I start thinking about having a baby with the low platelet counts....
Texas mom have you been treated with any steroids or had any infections recently? That can make you WBC elevate....
Sometimes when I get nervous I like to go to the PDSA website and that helps me a little bit!!

Not on antibiotics, but I have a tooth that my dentist confirmed was infected recently, it needs a root canal once baby is here. And I have horrible seasonal allergies that wreck havoc on my immunen system!
Yes I do like PSDA, it is comforting to know low platelets is not that abnormal or scary.. It's just the combo of the WBC and low platelets..
