Hi Ladies - I have a question.
My doctor ordered an FSH and Estradiol test and told me to get it on CD3, but not to count the spotting days. I have been spotting since Monday but today was the first semi-normal looking AF day - so would you count today as CD1 or tommorow as most of today is still kind of spotty?
Also, I am curious why the test needs to be run on CD3 (she also said it could be CD4 if CD3 was on a Sunday)?
TIA
Re: FSH & Estradiol test question
Thank you Deanne! That is what I needed to know about the full day. I am still not sure I can call yesterday 'flow", so I am just waiting to see what happens today. Usually AF hits me like a brick bat - I am not sure why she is so shy this cycle.
I hope you get your BFP next month!
Thank you Karenanmark - Good luck on your b/w also and I hope you get your 2011 LO also! Hopefully someone has an asnwer about the CD3 thing.

I'm sure she's being shy because you want it so badly. LOL That's what happens to me. Wishing you good luck with your testing.
If you get full red flow for the majority of the day (it starts before noon) then count that day as CD1. If the full flow starts later in the afternoon (like around 5pm), then count the next day as CD1.
You have b/w done on CD3 and CD21 because of the hormones you are producing at those points in your cycle.
At CD3, you are in the follicular stage of your cycle. This means that your body is in the process of maturing a new follicle (or egg). Your body is just beginning to produce estrogen (Estradiol) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) to get ready for ovulation. Estrogen levels will peak just before ovulation. You will then get a surge of LH (leutenizing hormone). This hormone releases the mature follicle(s). The CD3 b/w will tell your doctor how much Estrodial, FSH, and LH you are producing at this stage in your cycle.
After ovulation you are in the luteal phase of your cycle. Your body is now producing large amounts of progesterone. At CD21 (or 7dpo) your progesterone levels should peak. If implantation does not occur, your progesterone and estrogen levels will drop and you can expect CD1 again. CD21 b/w will tell your doctor what your progesterone level is, which can indicate if you have a LP defect and/or will need progesterone supplements. It can also be an indication of endometrium (lining) health, although this can also be seen through an u/s.
WOW! Thank you for such a great explanation.
