Do u wake dc up for tot activities?

I signed up for a music class and an organized playgroup both are at 11:15 or 11:30 once a week...DD usually starts her nap between 9 and 10 so there are times when she's still sleeping and we need to leave the house...I've always felt like if she needs her sleep she should sleep but on the other hand I want her to play with other kids and I need the parent interaction as well...WWYD?

Re: Do u wake dc up for tot activities?

  • Of course these things cost $ so there's that too...
  • Loading the player...
  • How old is she? Is it possible for her to go down to one nap (after lunch)? I always tried to just schedule around ds' naps. Now that he just takes one it makes it easier. Plus he's pretty flexible, so if nap ends up being a little later its ok.
  • I just answered a similar post...

It's so hard, this age because they are taking two naps, aren't quite old enough for a lot of the fun activities 2 year olds can do and yet, us moms are feeling a bit isolated and feeling like we are on lock down most days.  *sigh*

I actually only ever enrolled Emily in stuff that really did work around her nap schedule because I knew she needed that sleep so, I'm sorry I don't have any good advice for you except to maybe try and put her down a bit eariler at night, hoping she'll wake up a bit earlier the next morning and thus, take an earlier morning nap so you can make it to your class.

    Good luck!

  • No, I would not. I don't ever wake my child when she is sleeping, but she sleeps much less than most children and I need the break. She only sleeps 8-9 hours at night and a 2 hour nap during the day, and went to 1 nap a day at 10 months, so sleep is a rare thing in my house.

  • My DD is 13m she's still taking two naps...
  • when we have activities during nap, i leave the house early so he sleeps in the car.
our music class is at 11:15, so I leave at 10 so he can get in a good hour nap.
  • Ditto Renee.  DS just transitioned to 1 nap at 16 months. But when he was taking 2, if we had to go do something, I would leave in the morning about the time that he would normally go down for a nap, so he would atleast sleep in the car a little bit.  I made sure to be home for the afternoon nap, he would sleep for a much longer time!  Its kind of hard when they sleep so much (my DS naps used to be 2 hrs each!), but they do need the sleep.  I think once in a while is ok, but I wouldn't skip a nap on a daily bases.
  • I think it depends on the child.  If they're flexible and isn't impossible to handle without a nap, then I'd go for it, otherwise I probably wouldn't.  That said, my kids often skip naps all together for activities.  Life doesn't stop.  They can nap in the car. :)
