Not so good news from the dr today...

I was told at 14 weeks that my placentia was low, but not to worry..so at my 20 week u/s they checked it..I just saw my dr today, and she told me that now my placentia is right above my cervix..like almost touching it...so she wants me to have another u/s in a month..and if it doesn't move up...I'll officially have placentia previa and most likely....a c-section..Crying

On a happier note...are you girls still doing the playdates on Tuesdays?

Re: Not so good news from the dr today...

  • I'm sorry.

But on a good note, I had a c/s and it was FINE.  There was a post a few weeks ago about c/s on this board, there's like 15 responses and everyone had good recovery, etc.

If you have any questions about c/s, I'll answer them.

  • Thanks! I think I'm more afraid of going into surgery than anything..I'm not a big fan, and I dont think anyone else is either. I'm also nervous because we have a toddler and DH is in school and the only family that is up here is DH's and they all work...my mom was going to fly up to take care of DS when I have DD...but idk if she'll be able to..so I'm also nervous about recovery.

Is it true that breastfeeding is harder when you have a c/s, mostly, milk supply and everything? I'd be devistated if I couldn't bf DD.

Oh, AND one more question..is it harder or easier to loose weight/get back in shape after a c/s? DH's cousin had one, and she let herself go...and I REALLY want to get in shape after DD's born.

    Thanks :D

  • I'm heading out to lunch, but i will answer these when I get back, ok!

I had a c/s and it went fine. It all goes by pretty quickly. As far as losing weight goes, you are not allowed to work out for at least 6 weeks. But, I lost 22 lbs in the first 2 weeks. It came off very quickly! And I didn't have a problem with milk supply either. It came in just like it was supposed to. You just have to be on top of the pumping every 3 hours to make sure it comes in. Recovery isn't too bad. The first week is the worst, but each day gets better. They make sure you have plenty of pain meds to make it through though. I am sure you will do great! Good luck!! If you have any other questions, I would also be more than happy to answer them for you.

  • My sister had a c-section and was up and moving around (quite well I might add) in a couple of days.  She breast feed for an entire year and that has helped her with gaining her old body back.  Burns a lot of calories.  She looks great and has since about a few months afterwards.  I, on the other hand, had a vaginal birth 6 weeks early, my milk never really came in all that much despite my efforts, and I had to formula feed from day one.  It's taken me longer to get back to my pre-pregnancy size, but not I'm smaller than before.  It takes work, but you'll get there.
  • Hi there!  Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!

I had a great recovery.  I was up and walking 12 hours after my surgery.  It was hard to get up by myself for the first 7-8 days, but after that I was just fine.

BFing...my milk came in on Day 5, just fine.  I was able to BF until 6 months, with only the normal issues that everyone else has.

Losing weight...well I have a small frame and put on 50 pounds, so for me, it's been tough to lose all the weight!  lol.  I'm still 7 pounds higher than I was before I got pregnant (and my DD is 1 year old).  But I don't diet at all and hardly work out, so, if I wanted to lose the weight, I definetly could have.  I walked a TON over the summer and that really helped with the weight loss.  I was a size 6 pre-baby.  At 5 weeks post partum I could barely fit into size 12 pants.  At 5 months post partum I was wearing a size 8, and now one year after birth, I'm in between a 6 and 8.

I won't lie, I HATED my c/s and recovery.  But I don't think it effected my milk, it came in but it took several weeks for DS and I to get into a good system of nursing.  He quit nursing when he was 9 months.

I wasn't supposed to take stairs for a week post surgery, and after that I was still moving slowly, started with a walk around the block and got winded.  But I don't think the c/s affected the weight loss.  If you are able to nurse, that will help you the most. GL!

Pretty much exactly this except I was down 26lbs in two weeks (I gained a LOT though in the end due to pre-e) and my milk never fully came in. I probably could've done better about the every 3hrs as sometimes I would get behind in it, but the first few days I tried and tried and nothing worked. Hoping it's better the 2nd time around. But the actual c-section was a breeze and it just hurt to get up the first 24hrs then it was just really uncomfortable to do so for the first almost week, but totally fine after.

  • Thanks ladies..that really helps ease my nerves :D
  • Sorry to hear that! I actually had complete previa my whole pregnancy too. I was on pelvic rest for most of my pregnancy but had no problem working or anything. They actually scheduled a c-section at 37 weeks and two days before my water broke. I was freaking out because it was mixed with blood and seemed like I was losing a lot of it, but in hindsight it wasn't that much. We got to the hospital, I was having contractions every 2 minutes. They prepped me and within 20 minutes my daughter was out. Everything was fine. I guess I wanted to just offer my experience. I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions :)
  • I asked a question about c/s a few weeks back, so if you can go back through and read- a ton of great responses. I had a c-section on March 18th and it couldnt have gone better. I had the best experience, and was deathly afraid of surgery. I'm happy to answer any questions, but literally it was incredibly easy given what it was. My biggest fear was the surgery while I was awake, so I just asked them not to tell me when they started, and I was entertained by the anesthesiologist and baby nurses (and my DH) and literally they were like "here he is!" I had no idea they were even touching me, I felt nothing. And once baby is out, you could care less about the surgery. GL- but don't worry, you'll be fine!

  • My mom had a c-section with each of her four kids and all went very smoothly.  You have to stay in the hospital a lot longer when recovering from major surgery (around 4 days rather than 1-2 days for delivering vaginally), but your baby gets to stay with you so I don't think it's that big of a deal.  I loved visiting my mom and baby brothers in the hospital (I'm sure I loved visiting my mom and sister, too, but I don't remember that, I was only 18 months).  And as far as I know, my mom didn't have any problems with breastfeeding.  She did pump milk, but I'm pretty sure she was able to start breastfeeding right away.

Surgery is scary though.  I've been wondering about if I will have to have a c-section because my mom had four and we're built fairly similar.  I really don't want one, because it is scary, but it is comforting to know that so many people have had such good experiences with delivery by c-section.
