As I'm thumbing through the Cord Blood Banking pamphlet I got from my Dr's office the other day, I came across the option to start a Cord Blood gift registry. There is a link to the company's website and your friends and family can donate to your registry.
Btw to get some idea of the cost, the company I'm looking at is the CBR one (www.cordblood.com) and the total first year fees are $2,195, then some kind of lifetime storage fees.
I imagine it would come across as tacky since it asks for a monetary donation, but I was wondering what other people thought about this.
Re: Quick etiquette Q: Cord Blood Banking gift registry, tacky or ok?
Tacky.
To me, it is equivalent to "registering" at the place you are honeymooning and essentially asking people for pay for your spa days, room, food, etc.
tacky. like you said it's basically equivalent to asking for money.
Exactly what I was going to say. I compare it to registering for your honeymoon which is incredibly tacky.
Ditto
My thoughts exactly. I would not put this on your registry.
Thanks ladies.
I had never seen a Cord Blood Registry before and was just wondering if maybe since it was something for your baby's health people wouldn't think it was as tacky as other cash registries.
And oh we won't be doing this at all don't worry, we are paying for this all at once w/$ in a savings account. I will not be financing this either
How I hate financing things, but that is another story.

I don't find it tacky. The photographer from my wedding offered gift registry and if anyone thought that was tacky, I didn't hear about it. And people got us a gift from it... I don't know if the two instances are very similar, but your question made me think of it. If people don't like it - they don't have to make it their gift.
Just curious, have you looked into delayed cord cutting as an alternative to storing?
No I haven't, I'll research it now, what is the difference?

I agree as well.
Food Allergies to Eggs, Milk, Peanuts, Tree Nuts & Beef
Challenged Soy and tolerated it.
Ha! Just read yours.
This.
Delaying cutting the cord basically allows all the blood in the cord and placenta (what you would be storing) to go into the baby where it was meant to go, instead of storing at a lab and potentially injecting it into your kid one day anyway. There is a ton of research showing the benefits of doing that.
