We met with the real dr ferber today and the outcome is that we are letting our son sleep too much. Which was like 8:30-7:30 am with a 1-2.5 hr nap during the day. He wants us to cut it to 9 hrs at night (10-7) and max 90 min nap during the day. And get rid of the binkie at the same time. We're in for a few rough nights.....
Re: back from our appt with the real dr ferber
Wow. How old is your son? Is there an original post I missed?

sorry- I thought I posted on 24+ last night about the sleep issues. My bad. thanks for the link. Really he was a perfect sleeper up until a few weeks ago and it just SNAPPED in a flash. The bottom line is that Feber thinks 9.5 hrs at night is all a 2 year old needs with 11 total...so a 1.5 hr nap. Now I was of the mind set, well I will just let him sleep as long as he wants and that worked great for us up to now but Ferber said he really couldn't be in a deep sleep cylce for that long and was probably awake at some point in the night just laying in his crib trying to fall back asleep. I re-read the book last night before we went and it's all spelled out in the book. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get him back to sleeping. So the suggestion was to keep him up until 10pm and start the method all over again with a strict wake up time of 7am. We spent almost 2 hours with them today- it was a little overwhelming. I'll write more when I have a pinch of time.....
Hmm...this sounds somewhat crazy to me. I know he is a Dr., but I cannot imagine keeping a 2 year old up until 10pm.That is nearly my bedtime...I need a few hours alone with my husband in the evening.
Our DS is in bed by 8 every night and will fall asleep sometime before 9pm on his own. It is usually around 8:30 and he is up at 7am. He also takes a 1.5 - 2.5 hr nap. Usually right at 2hrs though.
I would go with your gut on this one. Even if he gets up at 6am, I would put him to bed earlier so you can have some time alone in the evenings!!
Agreed! Sounds super crazy to me. Are you sure he's the real Dr. Ferber and not just some quack posing as him? Seems odd to me that you'd have the chance to meet with the real guy. Will you let us know how it's going?
