I was thinking of seeing a dermatologist and I noticed on the Kaiser website it says I that office is by referral only. I know this sounds stupid but do I actually have to go see my primary care Dr first or can they just refer me without seeing me? It is just to have a few moles looked at so nothing super serious (well I hope not.)

Re: ? if you have Kaiser
Try emailing your dr for the referral and then you don't have to pay to be seen by both drs.
SOME primaries will make you still come in to see them (but usually only for rashes because they can treat minor stuff).

Ditto this exactly.
Walnut Creek has a "roaming" derm, so when I went to see my GP, she just went and grabbed the derm to look at the thing I was asking about, so I didn't have to wait for a referral.
Call advice and tell them you have some moles that are concerning you; they'll probably be able to squeeze you in quicker!
