Lumps in both breasts after weaning?

So, a little before DS' first birthday, I decided to go ahead and start weaning him. I dropped one breastfeeding each week, then when I had him on three bottles, he dropped the last breastfeeding on his own. Since dropping the last breastfeeding, my breasts have been pretty sore, and now there are one or two lumps in each breast.

What do I need to do to make sure I don't end up with a breast infection? Or is it too late? Anyone have similar experience? Any advice? TIA!

  • I don't have much advice other than massaging where the lumps are and probably posting this on the BF board and then you may get some more responses!

  • I had the same thing when I weaned a couple weeks ago. I didn't do much besides massage a little, warm water in the shower seemed to help a bit. They eventually went away after a couple days.
  • I just dealt with this, and I was so freaked out by the lumps! I made a doctors appt to make sure it was just from weaning (and if so, to make sure I didn't get an infection). The doctor said it was just clogged ducts and to massage gently and apply some heat (like a warm shower or warm towel). She said they should eventually dry up, and now almost 2 weeks later they are pretty much gone.   Good luck!
