Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone hear that horrible story? (Warning this is very disturbing about an infant)

A mom left her 6 month baby strapped in a car seat on the floor in a room with 2 rottweilers. The dogs chewed off his diaper and his testicles.  I know stuff happens but I would LOVE to see her rights taken away along with the right to ever have kids. I have a yellow lab and I never left DD alone with him and he's the sweetest thing ever.  I am so upset over this story. That poor little baby...

  • OMG...thats terrible...why on earth would you leave a baby alone in a room with 2 rotti's.  We have a black lab / boxer mix and I have never left DS alone with him and he is a very sweet gentle dog.

  • That is so freaking awful.  WTF are people thinking?  I have a tiny, submissive Sheltie dog and I STILL don't turn my back on him around either child.  My MIL had a coworker lose her baby because the family Westie attacked.  Dogs, much as I love them, are animals and can't ever be totally trusted.  :(  Poor baby.

  • Yea. Wishing I hadn't opened this.
  • OMG!  That is rediculous! I am sick to my stomache too!
  • This is why I think people are crazy who think that it is ok to leave a baby or small child alone with a dog ever.  4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year.  880,000 seek treatment.  32,000 require reconstructive surgery.  Need I say more?  CDC website for stats.  How could she not heat the baby crying?
  • Ugh, I wish I hadn't opened this. I feel like barfing now.

  • I think the issue isn't that she left her child in a room with 2 rottweilers. The issue is that she left her child unattended. And apparently didn't come back to check on the screaming? Was she even in the house?

  • WTF?!?!

Thanks for posting. Yes, it's still sick but I feel a little better.

I can't believe somebody posted this. I will never get why people feel the need to post sick, tragic things or why I feel compelled to read them.

i am NOT defending the mother's questionable actions as to leaving the child unattended around an animal (period), but what probably happened was the dog(s) started to sniff the baby, it kicked the dog in the face, and the dog bit.  i feel terrible for the baby, but that is NOT the fault of the dog, it is the fault of the unattentive parent.

and to the OP, a rott does not equal viscious.  just an FYI.

I dunno...that article also uses the word "mauled."? That sounds a like a little more than a dog bite.? Could be wrong, but I think ABC news might have been sparing us the details.? Hopefully, since the mother responded to the child's screams, the dogs did not have enough time to do too much damage (trying to think positive).? Alone, on the floor, with pit bulls...hmmm...just can't see the logic in any of those elements.?
