Adoption

travel with a foster child?

Our case plan just got changed to adoption, by us, as birth parents are relinguishing this rights. YEA!!! But of course it will be awhile before everything is done and offical. We would like to take a Mexican cruise- around the end of summer this year and we want to take E with us. Our case worker told us it's fine- but I need her birth certificate- she does not need a passport- how would I get that?

Thanks!

Our Journey from two to three! 3 IUI's, 2 IVF's, decided to move to foster/adopt. 12/24/2009 Baby C born, 2/1/2010 placed with us, 5/17/2011 Adoption final- we are finally a forever family! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • The case worker should have her birth certificate, and should be able to get you a certified copy of your own.

Look at you, hiding this in a post about travel.  This is BIG NEWS!  Congratulations on this big step, and good luck for a smooth and easy process!!!!!  Party!!!

  • Sounds fun!

I just want to make sure you're aware of this requirement for minors (this is from the Carnival website):

When traveling with a minor and both parents/legal guardians are not cruising, we strongly recommend bringing an original signed letter from the absent parent/legal guardian authorizing the minor to travel with you. This will expedite processing by the Department of Homeland Security. Please note that a notarized letter to this effect is required if debarking with children in Mexico.

So basically, since your FC's birth certificate doesn't have your names on it, you'll need to bring some additional proof of your guardianship, including something notarized for Mexico. My mom had to do his when I was a teenager traveling with her & not my dad.

  • DD's grandmother traveled several times with DD when she was her foster child and had to have a letter each time to cross the boarder with her from SW. When then had a letter but noboby ever asked for it after we DD came home. We can not travel now that the adoption is final but we still do not have DD new birth certificate across the boarder. We are happy to wait.
