Mine is scheduled for Tuesday and I'm starting to get nervous. I was not induced with DD#1, so I don't know what to expect. Can I read your induction birth story, please?
Pre-Induction: 1 1/2cm dilated?.thick?..-3 station
I checked into the hospital Wednesday evening at 6:00pm formy ?balloon induction.? They placed a foley catheter into my cervix andinflated it with 60cc?s of saline. (The catheter, if working correctly, willhelp you dilated to 4-5 centimeters) The catheter wasn?t painful once it wasin, but the process of getting it in was quite uncomfortable!I contracted on and off throughout thenight, but nothing that was too terribly painful.
At 3:00am a nurse came into the room to tug on the balloon. She pulled on it once and out it came! She checked me and we were surprised to find that I was already 4-5cm dilated. It had worked!!!!!!!! The nurses held off on giving me pitocin until 6:00am tosee if my body would go into labor on it?s own.
6:00am ? Pitocin started on a low dose.
6:00-9:00am ? Contractions were coming regular and I had tofocus on breathing through each one. I was checked at 9:00 and found to be 6cm.
9:00am ? Asked for my epidural. My doctor allows epiduralsto be given at any time once pitocin has started, but for some reason I had itin my head that the pain needed to be a 9 on a 1-10 scale before I got theepidural. Why I thought that ? I have no idea!
9:15am ? The anesthesiologist came in and gave me theepidural. No big deal at all!! Getting the tape taken off my back that held thetube in placed hurt more than the actual epidural itself. J
9:30am ? Dr comes in and breaks my water. Clear & lotsof it.
I had an amazing epidural ? I could move my legs around onthe hospital bed but couldn?t feel the pain of the contractions (only atightening sensation). I knew when I was having a contraction but it wasn?tpainful at all.
Noon ?7cm
2:00pm ? 8cm
3:00pm ? 9cm ? Baby?s heart rate was high so they put me onoxygen to try and help regulate it. I also had a slight fever at this time(which often happens when you?ve been in labor for hours).
4:30pm ? I started feeling lots of pressure down there (likeI needed to have a BM). The nurse checked me and I was 10cm! She called thedoctor to let him know I was at 10cm. He wanted me to labor down for a whileand said he?d start making his way to the hospital in the next 30 minutes orso.
4:30-5:15pm ? I could feel my body starting to push on it?sown.Through each contraction Ifelt more and more pressure and the urge to push.
5:15pm ? Doctor arrived and they started preparing thebed/room for me to start pushing.
5:39pm ? After pushing through 4 contractions?.a total of 12times?.Ainsley Grace was born!
This was my birth story with DD1. I was 41w3d when I was induced.
Emily Suzanne made her debut at 2:53pm on Thursday, November 29th, 10 days past her due date, at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 20 inches, with strawberry blonde hair and gray-blue eyes.
DH and I got to the hospital around 8:30 Wednesday night for my scheduled induction the following day. I was still just 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, though apparently I was having contractions every 3-5 minutes but barely noticed most of them. (I never even felt any BH until I hit 41 weeks, and even then, I wasn?t sure until the nurse confirmed them during my non-stress test.) The nurse told me that they would give me a dose of Cytotec at 11pm, followed by another at 3am, and then the doctor would start me on Pitocin when he came in around 7am. I got the first dose as scheduled, and then was surprised when my water broke spontaneously at 11:35pm. About an hour later, the pain level of my contractions had gone from a 1 to an 8, and I was already asking for an epidural. I had called my mom after my water broke, because originally she was going to wait to come until the morning, and she arrived at 1am just as I was getting the epidural. I?m glad I didn?t try to tough it out and wait any longer, because it allowed me to relax and try to get some sleep during the long night so I?d be less tired during delivery.
My doctor came in at 7am and told me I was still just 1cm and 50%, which surprised me considering my contractions had been every 2-4 minutes all night. The nurse gave me one dose of Pitocin every 30 minutes starting at 7:30am. By 10am, I was 4cm, 100%, and ?2 station, and my doctor cut the Pitocin to every hour. By 12pm, I was 9cm and 0 station, and by 1pm I was ready to push. I swear the epidural had worn off, because I had regained feeling in my legs and could feel the contractions plenty. After about 30 minutes of pushing, the nurse told us that she could see the head. I ended up pushing almost two hours, and since I was so exhausted from not sleeping and weak from not being able to eat, I practically dozed off between contractions. The whole thing was very surreal, most of all when they finally laid her on my stomach. It took 16 hours, but it felt like it was over so quickly!
To say we were immediately in love is an understatement. It was so sweet seeing DH hold her for the first time, with tears in his eyes. I don?t know that I?ll ever stop looking at her in amazement. She is absolutely perfect.

I went in on a sunday night at 6pm. I was not dialated at all and was slighly effaced. They started me on cytotech to help soften me up. Contractions started almost immediately. They moved me to L&D Monday morning at 7am. They were about to start me on pitocin but then decided to wait because I was having regular contractions on my own and was already 3cm. Well, nothing happened. At 3pm they gave me one more dose of the cytotech. By 6pm I was only 3.5 cm dialated. They broke my water. at 7pm, they started me on pitocin because my contractions were no longer regular. by 10, my contractions were very painful so I asked for an epi.
At 11, I finally had an epi and they rechecked me. I was then 6 cm. I slept from 11pm until 1:30 am when they woke me to tell me it was time to push. She was born at 2:07 am.
I went in on a Wed night at 8, didnt get settled in until 11 or so, and they put cervadil in (after they sent like 5 nurses to try to find my cervix 0.0 oh, and they said you can use the restroom with cervadil in, just have to pat not wipe. lol). I didnt get much sleep because of the monitors and blood pressure cuff, plus the break-away beds are not comfortable. At 5:30 I got up, they took cervadil out (it wasnt uncomfortable, it just looks like a tiny little piece of rolled up paper on a string). I took a shower, brushed my teeth, etc, and at 6 they started pitocin. I tried to sleep some, and around lunch I was having noticeable but not painful contractions.
The dr came in (assumably on his lunch break) and broke my water. That was really weird for me, because he used the stick thing with a tiny hook on the end and weirded me out. Anyways, after that, I got an epi (probably about 1 or so..). That wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be, I didnt even feel the contractions while I was bent over. They put the cath in and got me all comfortable. Every time I pressed the button to get more medicine, I threw up. So someone had to help me sit up every time.
I started pushing at 2 or 2:30 and had her right at 5:00. They had to use the vaccum because she was facing the wrong direction and that was preobably the worst part. They stitched me up, took out the epi (the cath came out before I started pushing) and left me on pitocin until 12 (7 hrs) to make sure I didnt bleed too much. Thats about it!
I was induced at 38 weeks, and had a merciful 11 hour labor! I went in the night before to start the saline drip and whatnot, and I had a pretty favorable cervix, so everything went pretty quickly. The contractions were pretty intense from the get go, and I labored on my own for 5 hours before getting the epidural.
I was nervous as heck before my induction too, but before I knew it, it was over and the memories were all being replaced by thoughts of my sweet LO. Good luck!
On Sunday, March 7 DH and I went to the hospital at 8:00 PM to have our baby. It was so weird leaving the house knowing that the next time we would come back we would have a little baby. DH was so excited when we checked in. He was video tapping the room and was interested in documenting this important time of our life. I was a bit nervous since I had never been in the hospital before and had no idea what to really expect. I made him turn off the video camera as soon as I put my hospital gown on.
Let me just say that the IV was one of the worst parts of labor and delivery. I hate needles and it felt so weird. They started Cervadril that night and gave me a sleeping pill so I could get some rest.
At 6:00 AM Monday, March 8 Pitocin was started. I still didn't have any contractions I could really feel, although they did register on the monitor.
At 8:30, my doctor broke my water. It was such an odd sensation. The doctor couldn't get over how much fluid there was. We called it Lake Evan. I started feeling contractions pretty soon after my water was broken, so I told the nurse I would want the epidural sooner rather than later. Good thing I told her this because it took about an hour before I was able to get it.
Aound 10:00 I got my epidural, which didn't hurt at all. It worked for the most part, but I was able to feel a little pain (not pressure) on the left side. It didn't bother me until I started having back labor.
I had a horrible pain in my lower left back. DH was wonderful and applied counter pressure during each contraction. The nurse checked and Evan was almost sunny side up, so I had to lie on my side and hope he would turn on his own. And luckily he did. The anesthesiaologist came back and topped off the epidural. He also said I could use the button to get extra doses whenever I needed. At that time I didn't want him to try to redo the epidural.
Around 1:00 we were ready to start pushing. After about 15 minutes we realized that every time I pushed, Evan's heart rate would drop. If it didn't get better, we would do an emergency c-section. We waited for about an hour to start pushing again. This was really hard to do since my body wanted to push and he was right there, but we needed Evan to recover.
Just after 2:00 we started pushing again. My doctor told me that I was actually pushing too hard and that I needed and even sustained push. Who knew you could push too hard?
At 2:38, Evan was born. He was laid on my chest and I thought he was the most amazing thing in the world. He was 8 lbs 8.3
ounces and was 21 inches long. DH was such a proud daddy and was by Evan's side from the time he was born until we left the hospital 2 days later.
I had second degree tears and required 20 stitches. I needed a local anesthetic since I was able to feel some of the stitches. I also burst some of the blood vessels in my face. It took about a week for those to go away.
DH asked me after all of this would I still want another baby or is one enough. I told him that looking at our wonderful, amazing, beautiful baby made it all worth it and I would absolutely have another. Just not right away. :-)
