Which hospital for delivery in Delray/Boca? BRCH or Bethesda

Ok, here goes (and this is definitely premature since I am not pregnant, but I like to plan ahead).  I need to get my act together and find an OB since I haven't been to one in almost 2 years, BUT first I need to figure out which hospital I'll end up at for delivery of baby #2.

We recently moved to east Delray Beach and the closest hospital is Bethesda Memorial (about 5-10 minutes, 2.5 miles).  I don't know anyone who has delivered at Bethesda, but I have heard good things about Boca Community Hospital.  Boca Community is about a 15-20 minute drive (9 miles).  Normally I would say the extra 10 minutes is no big deal, but my first labor went REALLY fast (less than 2 hours from first contraction to fully dilated and ready to push) and I'm afraid of what might happen if we get stuck in traffic or even just having to spend more time than necessary in a car b/c last time even the 8 minute drive to the hospital felt too long.

So my questions are:

1. Has anyone delivered at Bethesda Memorial, and what is it like?

2.  Am I being overly concerned about the extra distance?  Especially considering that last time I didn't know that it was going to go that fast and probably could have left for the hospital at least 30 minutes earlier if I hadn't waited to time contractions.

 Thanks!

Re: Which hospital for delivery in Delray/Boca? BRCH or Bethesda

  • One of my close friends delivered her first at Bethesda and had a horrible experience. She always tells us how much she hated it! Then she delivered her twins at West Boca and LOVED it!

I delivered both the boys at BRCH and loved the staff and the experience. We will be delivering our third there too!

Now we live 2 minutes from BRCH but when I had Sebastian we lived at the Boca Delray border but I just went with BRCH for no particular reason. I just hate driving in west Boca!

I don't think the distance is a big deal in this case (your only talking a few miles) and yes, you probably won't wait as long to go in the hospital next time! :)

  • I had my daughter at BRCH and LOVED it and will go back for #2. If it makes you feel any better...I live in Miami and had a 60 min drive! I go to Women's Healthcare Partners (I see Rachel, the midwife)...love that group too!

  • BRCH is the absolute best. It is about 25 miles from our home, but so well worth the trip. We plan on going back for #2.

  • I live in west Boca and am 10 minutes closer to West Boca Medical Center than Boca Raton Community Hospital and I will DEFINATELY be driving the extra 10 minutes to BRCH.  I've heard a million good things about it.  And my personal experience there (non-pregnancy related) was a thousand times better than WBMC or any other for profit hospital.  I don't know about Bethesda, but if it's a for profit hospital, I'd recommend BRCH in a heartbeat.  You really can't beat not-for-profit care and they're much more likely to give you the assistance you need without nickel-and-diming you for it.  Sorry I'm no help on Bethesda though.
