I know I should be appreciative that we live in a country where free speech is not only an option, but is generally respected.
However.
I find myself getting annoyed when people use FB as a means to spew their extreme political views, especially when they're disrespectful toward the president and other leaders - as in, name-calling, false or spun "facts", racially-oriented comments, etc.
No one has to agree with governmental decisions and policies, but there's a tactful, respectful way to disagree and I'm just not sure FB is the best forum.
Disclaimer - sharing links to news stores, op-eds, and other "real" media is different to me, for some reason. Maybe I have a double standard.

Re: facebook vent.
How bad is it that I also HATE this, and feel like my husband is a huge offender?
Except he just shares links to media (which you exclude from your vent!), with some random one-lined opinion of his own (no name-calling or spun facts or anything). It annoys me.
It especially annoys me when I see him get into it with mutual friends. Seriously. Must we? Can't we keep our friendships on a get drunk and play cards level?
We've stopped discussing politics in our house. Or rather, I've just learned to nod and tune out when he starts telling me what Uncle Rush had to say today. Thankfully Paige naps while he listens to talk radio. :-)
Being someone who works in politics every day, LOVEs politics, and has VERY STRONG opinions on politic I agree that Facebook is not the place for those.
I have always followed the rule that while you may not like the man that is President, you have to respect the office they hold and trashing them on Facebook no matter how much you loathe them and their policies
is not respectful.
THIS
everytime there is a speech or something big, people post stuff & I take advantage of the hide feature
I'm with Maggie on this one!!!!
Ditto. I did vote, so I can complain a little, but I will respect the office that the person holds. I pray almost daily for our leaders and have for some time now.
This exactly. My "hide list" seems to be getting bigger and bigger too. In my opinion, facebook isn't the forum for politics, religion, and money talk.
