Birth Stories

logan is here!!! (long post)

Logan was born on Dec 10th at 5:17 pm. he was 8lbs 12 oz and 21 in long. My due date was Dec 4th so my dr. scheduled me for an induction on the 10th. He thought I would have Logan sooner b/c I was 3 cm dilated at my last appt, but apparently logan was comfy where he was, so we went to the induction at 6:30 am on the 10th. When they hooked up the monitors they said I was having contractions. So apparently I had been having them off and on for days but didn't know it. They started the pitocin at 8am. Then for some reason my blood pressure starting getting high. I was hooked up to a blood pressure cuff that automatically took my bp every so often and whenever it was over a certain number an alarm would go off. So naturally everytime the alarm went off, I got more and more upset. So they decided to go ahead and give me the epidural even though I wasn't feeling any pain with my contractions yet. (I had planned on getting an epi anyway) Let me tell you, it was wonderful. The IV hurt more than the epidural did. It was almost instantly that I calmed down and my bp went back to normal. they were going to break my water but it broke on its own around lunch time. I was at 8cm by 1:00. I took a nap then I started pushing at 3 pm. Yes that's right I pushed for over 2 hours. It wasn't bad at first but I couldn't really tell how well I was pushing b/c I couldn't feel anything. The last 45 min the epidural was starting to wear off and I was in pain but was mostly really tired from pushing so much. They decided I was pushing better w/o the epi so they stopped it even though my dh argued against it b/c I was in so much pain. I really don't remember much from then to when Logan was born. All I remember is the nurse kept telling me one more push and I called her a liar b/c she kept making me push again. :) Then she says don't push b/c the head was crowning and it took 15 min for the dr. to show up. I was crying and yelling for someone to get him out now. That part really upset my husband, poor thing. The dr. came in and calmed me down and got me to focus and finally Logan was born. I got a 3rd degree natural tear, but I didn't feel it nor did I feel the dr. stitching it up. FYI, my DH made the mistake of looking at the placenta and he really wishes he hadn't looked :) But Logan is adorable and we can't believe we made such a beautiful baby. We're having some issues with breast feeding. They started me with a nipple shield in the hospital b/c he wouldn't latch on, now he won't breast feed w/o the nipple shield, so I'm trying to figure how to wean him off the nipple shield...
