I don't have another labor to compare it to - but for me, it wasn't scary at all. The L&D nurses were terrific and my doctors explained everything to me. It was painful, yes, but I don't know that there's a way around that!
Just have them break your water, no pain in that. If that doesn't start contractions then you'll have to do more, but it should work. No point in getting more meds if you don't need 'em!
I loved it! I've only had one baby - I was scheduled for an induction and they started by breaking my water(which can only be done unless you're dialated to a 3 usually - I wasn't and I so they offered to stretch me to a 3, and THAT IS PAINFUL), and nothing happened, no labor. I ended up with pitocin and I am a total wimp and was contracting with the pitocin for 6 hours before I needed an epidural, but it's different for everyone. DON'T WORRY. It was painful but I went as long as I could without the epidural, and then decided to get it, and I never reached a point where I thought it was just the end of the world and I couldn't handle it. I honestly wish I could go back and do it all over again, and trust me I'm such a baby and was scared to death but it was such an amazing experience, every bit of it, not just holding my baby. The only thing is labors with pitocin often are a little bit longer, and I've heard those contractions compared to natural contractions are more painful, but I've only had the one and it really wasn't that bad. My labor was 14.5 hrs and I was pushing for 2.5 and it flew by for me. I'm a baby and it's NOT that bad.
my induction wasn't scary at all. i was already 4 cm on my own when i went in, got started on pitocin to up the contractions, the doc broke my water and i was on my way. i actually labored a while before he broke my water. then i got my epi after that since the contractions were intense and painful. total i was in labor for 7 hours. good luck!
I was induced with my DS. I went in at 8:00AM, they broke my water at 8:30AM. They gave me some pitosin(spelling??). By 11:00AM I was telling the nurse that I think I have to push(I was 4cm when I went in.) she checked me I was already 9cm. I went to 10 cm shortly after and by 4:22 PM that afternoon my 7lb 12oz baby boy was born. We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl. Everyone is going to be different, being induced just makes you go through the stages of labor quicker. Sometimes it can be painful(not for me though.) and it's certainly not scary if you know what the stages of labor are. My DH and I took one class at the hospital that we delivered at. I hope this answers any of your questions. Don't worry you will be just fine.
