Birth Stories

Anyone use hypnosis?

We are not TTC yet but I'm already doing research on pregancy and labor.  I've read about women who have used hypnosis to successfully cope with the pain of childbirth without using medication.  Has anyone done this?  If so, did it work for you / were you satisfied with the experience?  TIA!

Re: Anyone use hypnosis?

  • My grandmother was hypnotized for my aunt, her second child. She said she was absolutely terrified of childbirth after the negative experience she had with my father's birth, but that hypnosis was wonderful and she wouldn't have considered using anything else if she had had any more children.

  • check out hypnobabies. Easjer is pretty well versed in this as well so you may want to page her on BOTB with questions.
  • My friend used it for both of her kids.  The first one it worked well, that's why she did it again with the second.  However, the second baby came suprising early (6 weeks early) and her labour was too quick for her to do the hypnobirthing.
  • I am taking a hypnobabies class right now.  It really gets DH involved in the whole process since he will be the one helping me stay hypnotized.  It is a lot of homeowrk though.  Expect to spend at least 2 hours or so a day listening to CDs and practicing with DH.  A friend of mine did it and she said she can't wait to have another baby.  It definitely reminds you that you should be happy having a baby not terrified.
  • When I got pregnant I read everything my library offered, including a book called Hypnobirthing by Marie Mongan. I fell in love with it, and now plan to take a class. I'd recommend reading the first half of the book to decide if it's right for you (and if it is, continue reading the rest).
