Babies: 3 - 6 Months

End of "fussiness"..is there an end in sight??

I have heard from many people, including my pedi that the general fussiness of babies usually stops when they are 3 months or so.  From your experiences, is this pretty accurate?  LO is not extremely fussy, but I wouldnt be opposed to her being happy all the time either!Smile

  • I don't know about babies in general, but mine has gotten a LOT more fussy over the past week.  Every evening, about this time, she just falls apart and is inconsolable.  I don't know what the deal is.  I even thought it might be a milk allergy, but the more I read about that I've ruled it out.  Who knows??

I hope 3 months is the magical mellowing point for yours.  Big Smile

  • yeah, i guess in a way they do become more engaged in the world, and less fussy, because they are easily distracted and entertained, but that comes with a whole new world of issues... lately its not sleeping well at night, not eating enough during the day (because she's so distracted by the world) and teething, so i wouldn't say this phase is any easier, personally.

i'm learning that every stage has its ups and downs...

  • We had a really bad case of colic (24/7) screaming baby, which turned around at around 2.5 months and we got a different baby.  Now I understand his cries for the most part.  Hang in there, I felt like I was going to loose my mind somedays!
  • DD has definitely gotten much better. She was a pretty cranky baby but she has gotten increasingly better and now she is a sheer joy. She is always happy and giggling unless she is tired or hungry. I thought I was doomed to have a fussy baby but that's not the case at all.
  • my boy wouldn't let me do ANYTHING until he was around 6 months...  even now he gets fussy but it depends on if he needs his nap, bored, or wants to be held...  he can entertain himself for longer periods though (thank god).  i've read in different places that infant boys cry more than girls so hopefully your LOs fussiness ends sooner than my sons did.
  • I had a completely different baby at 3.5-4 months. Those first 3 months were a nightmare of colic and severe reflux... literally crying 24/7 even though she was on reflux meds, mylicon after every feeding, and I cut out EVERYTHING possible from my diet.

When people said it would pass I didn't believe them but they were right.

  • With my DD, it was closer to 4. She still has her moments when she's overtired or hungry, but that's any baby. I think for us, finding out she had allergies and doing everything we can to take care of that has helped decrease her fussiness quite a bit, but I too just think she was a fussy girl. She is a pretty happy camper these days though- though maybe it's b/c she's figured out how to voice her complaints w/out crying- she has this sound she makes now basically says, alright, ma, pick me up or I will start crying!
