Ingredients: CHEDDAR CHEESE (PASTEURIZED NONFAT MILK AND MILKFAT, CHEESE CULTURE, SALT, ENZYMES), NATAMYCIN (A NATURAL MOLD INHIBITOR). Size: 10 OZ
The label from the American cheese I purchase:
LAND O LAKES? Pasteurized Process American Cheese
INGREDIENTS: Cultured Pasteurized Milk And Skim Milk, Buttermilk, Milkfat, Salt, Contains Less Than 2% of Sodium Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Lactic Acid, Milk Protien Concentrate,Enzymes. CONTAINS: MILK
So other than the less than 2% of some phosphate crap these two are fairly similar. I'm not defending American Cheese as highly nutritious. Just stating facts for comparison's sake.

Re: American "cheese" is not cheese
i agree - and my dh would give you a hug for saying this. then again he hates 95% of the cheese here in the US.
It says it right there on the label: "processed cheese food".
Not for me.
Just for comparison's sake:
The label of a commonly purchased cheddar cheese:

We buy the land o lakes also, its way less processed than kraft! Its cheese IMO..... you can have your stinkin' stilton.
FYI I love all cheeses from the stinkiest to the most processed.
