D.C. Area Babies

Proof (the restaurant) and Babies

Hi Ladies,

I know many of you or at least on the Nest side are big fans of Proof.  I have yet to go but our kid-less friends are having a birthday celebration dinner there at 7 PM.  Allie is almost 7 months and DH and I take her out to dinner with us weekly.  She usually falls asleep while we dine in peace.  We have taken her to Founding Farmers when she was almost 4 months old but for lunch, not dinner.  Would those of you familiar with the restaurant advise against bringing her to Proof for dinner?  OpenTable.com describe both Founding Farmers and Proof as "Casual Elegant."  Given our track record, do you think we'd be ok?

TIA!

Re: Proof (the restaurant) and Babies

  • If she'll sleep through, I'd say it should be ok. If there's a chance she'll be awake and fussy, I'd say no. I've only been to Proof twice but both times it was evening and a the clientele was definitely older, martini sipping/wine drinking types. There were no kids. I wouldn't take DD b/c with my luck, she'd choose that night to go postal and I don't think that would be well-received there.

That said, congrats to you for having such a well-behaved restaurant baby. Smile

  • I take BabyCrown everywhere and I don't hesitate to bring him to a nice restaurant as long as it fits in his schedule.  As long as you've done well in the past, there shouldn't be a reason for you to not take her.  FWIW, one of my more enjoyable dining experiences was at a super nice restaurant in Seattle and the table next to us had an angel of a two year old.
  • No advice - but that picture of your daughter is just beyond cute!!
  • I would ask the people putting together the celebration, but honestly, no I would not take a baby to Proof. Maybe for lunch, but definitely not a 7 pm dinner. Get a sitter and enjoy a nice grown up night out!
    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • no way, personally, I'd never take Warner to a restaurant like Proof (even when he was younger and quieter). IMO, It's the kind of restaurant you get a babysitter for--and it's definitely worth it!
  • I would not take a baby to Proof, except maybe for lunch.  My son was an angel in restaurants until recently and there's no way I would've taken him to a nice/trendy restaurant.  Sorry.
  • I would not take DD either. Especially, if it is a birthday celebration with kid-less friends.

  • No - I really wouldn't. The restaurant just doesn't seem like a baby-friendly environment (although it is awesome!). Can you get a babysitter?

  • You have a lovely daughter. Congratulations! Um...but the thing is, your friends almost certainly would NEVER tell you to leave her at home but they DEFINITELY want you to. Seriously, don't be that Mom. Either be able to fully enjoy a night out (with your husband, not your baby), or just stay home as a family. Your baby-less friends will thank you. Also, Baby Crown's Mom sounds like a nut job.
