::felonice::

Hi!  My ob is Dr Yoo in St Lucie West but my first appt is with the midwife.  I am planning on delivering at Martin Memorial and would love to hear about your experience there.  Who was your ob?  Nice to meet you!

Re: ::felonice::

  • butting in! I missed your original post cause i was out all day yesterday, but I live in Stuart also. I believe Felonice went to the same OB's I went to, Women's Health Specialists by the Treasure coast mall. I delivered at Martin also. It's a decent hospital, all private rooms and right downtown.  I had a pretty rough experience, but it wasn't really the hospital;s fault, Midwife messed up my stitches. I delivered with Donna Thompson from WHS. let me know if you have any specific questions!

    How was your experience with the midwife?  Would you recommend using one?
  • I loved my other midwife, Katie Douglas. She was amazing. I think she delivered all of my friends and they all had an amazing experience. Donna happened to be on call when I was delivering so I got her, and she sucked. She was not warm and fuzzy, and she made me feel like I was doing stuff wrong. I think it just depends on who you get! If you get a good one, it can be a great experience. The problem with these big practices is you never know who you will get though!
  • Hi there! I'm from Port St. Lucie as well and delivered at Martin Memorial.  Like Felonice & Melanie, I used Women's Health as well.  I agree with Melanie - Katie Douglas is wonderful! I ended up with a c-section which she assisted and was performed by Dr. Dickens.  He was very nice as well.  I did see Donna Thomson and wasn't overly impressed with her bedside manner, but I've heard differently from others.

    Also, I know Dr. Yoo delivers at Lawnwood.  She is part of Coastal OBGYN, correct?  Have you inquired if they have privileges at Martin Memorial?

    Best of luck with your choice - I really liked Martin Memorial; the staff was very accommodating and friendly.

    Thanks for all your info!  Dr. Yoo is with Coastal and now that you mention it, I don't know for sure if she delivers at Martin Memorial.  I guess I have a lot to find out at my first appointment.  I think I'm too far to deliver at Lawnwood.
  • Hi

    I have been away all day - just saw your msg
    bc I was delivering at Martin but lived in PSL i went to WHS in jensen

    Dont know anything about Dr Yoo - or lawnwood - but depends where you are in PSL - Martin is def. closer for us - make sure you are close - I thought i had time! but I didnt1

    Like everyone who previously posted - I love Katie the midwife too she is great! in fact i see her Monday she did all my aftercare - and spent a lot of time with me at the hospital and when i go in to the office - i never feel like she is rushing me out the door - that she has time to answer my questions.

    None of the midwives were on when i went in (I went in super bowl sunday)  but the nurses were great - they were ready to do the whole thing - they paged Dr. Collins (this was 2:30 am - monday) but i guess he was taking his time since it was my first - but Abby was quick and an hour after I walked in - Abby had arrived and the doc arrived just in time to catch and stitch me up but I would have gone with a midwife I didnt care either way(my whole labor was 2.5 hours from the time I woke up til Abby arrived) but overall I had a great exp at martin - make sure to get one of the new delivery rooms they just redid the floor -

     good luck!!!
