positive ffn test

Just got the call that my ffn test was positive.  I am freaking out a little now.  If you had a positive result, did you go into labor within two weeks?

Re: positive ffn test

  • I've heard of false positives but I haven't had one myself. ?I know it's hard but try to stay calm to keep LO in there. ?GL!?

  • No experience myself, but with a postive FFN there is only a 50% chance that you will go into labour in the next 2 weeks.  It's not a gold standard test by any means.
  • I was given the test yesterday while at my biweekly visit because of symptoms I've been having. Based on everything he told me and I've read, the negative means you're safe (free to do what you were doing for next 2 weeks) and the positive means you will need to take every precaution to prevent going into labor and to help your baby if you do. So, if my test comes up positive (I find out after lunch today), I will be put on bedrest (currently working 50 hour weeks on my feet), I will be put on steroids to help his lungs in case I do deliver, and possibly antibiotics since I haven't been tested for strep yet. Technically, I could still deliver several weeks from now... they just don't know.

Did you have symptoms or did they routinely check you for it because you're high risk carrying twins?

  • Thanks ladies.  I have symptoms so that is why I am worried.  My cervix is 1.5 cm and 50% effaced.  I have been on bedrest for about 6 weeks now.  My doctor says they just have to keep a really close eye on me now.

  • a positive test means nothing since there are a number of things that can cause a false positive. a negative result is the only reliable one from an ffn. it gives you about a 97% chance of not going into labor in the next two weeks.
  • I had a positive at 24 weeks along with shortening and funneling cervix...I'm still preggo!

My peri said it really means 30% chance within 2 weeks and that you are more likely to go into labor by week 36.

Try not to stress and stay positive...my blog has my whole story if you're interested...
