Question Regarding use of Fertility Test Sticks

Hey guys, I wanted to ask about the testing sticks. I know they say that they test line should be as dark or darker than the control line for it to mean you are ovulating. My test line never showed as dark or darker than the control even during the time of the month I should have been ovulating. But more recently, the test line is now almost invisible, you can barely see it. So does that mean I actually am ovulating when the line is indeed getting darker, even though it's not as dark as the control line?

Any idea you guys might have would be appreciated.

Re: Question Regarding use of Fertility Test Sticks

  • They say the line has to be as dark or darker than the control line for it to signal ovulation.  I could never trust what I was seeing so I changed to the CBE digital with the smiley face....how can you mistake a smiley face??

  • yes, I've been using the "Answer" ones. they are the thin little strips that come in a bottle.
  • I was the worst at determining what the color was on those test strips, so I forked out the big bucks like Char and went with the digital ones.  So much easier and no second guessing yourself.

  • A positive OPK is when at least half of the test line is as dark or darker then the control line (this will happen a lot with answer opks).  Also when are you testing?  I find that I have better results later in the afternoon, around 4pm.  I typically ovulate around CD 14 through CD16.  I start using opk's around CD 10 until I have a positive (which usually is only half dark).  Around CD 12 I use them twice a day so that I do not miss my surge, at 10am and 4pm.  Sometimes your surge can come and go quickly for the test to pick it up.  However, OPK's only test for your surge that promotes ovulation, they cannot tell you if you have in fact ovulated.  The only way to confirm ovulation is if you are charting your bbt.  I see that your are towards the end of this cycle, therefore you mostly likely are seeing no test line since your fsh surge has already occured.

    I hope that helps!

ETA:  this is a great place to buy opks and hpts for a heck of a better price then the local drug store.

  • Oh girl! 50 bucks is a lot!!  I think I paid like $25 at walmart and $29 at Target for 7 sticks.  I used them with the cheapies....so if I knew I was gonna O soon I would use a digi for a day or 2...that way they lasted longer.  You can also get a BBT (thermometer) for about $10 and start to chart.  Check out fertilityfriend.com....lots of great info on there.

I have better luck testing in the afternoon.  I read somewhere that you release the LH around 11:00 am or something.. so your first morning pee might not be the best.
