Pregnant after a Loss

Don't attack. I hate diaper cakes.

WTH are they for?  I don't get them? They are on my "please don't do this at my shower list"...next to any games....guess the diameter of the mom......rubber duckies in blue punch........callimg me "mommy"......clothes line with onesies......and corsages.Zip it! Thankfully my list can be kept to myself since my tasteful gay is in charge.

  • When I told my SIL we were going to cloth diaper, her first response was, "But then I can't make you a diaper cake!" Um, yeah, so? She was really upset about it though.

  • LOL! Well I haven't been to a baby shower in sooooo long that I haven't even seen what a real diaper cake looks like (since back then I don't think diaper cakes exsisted!) But I know my friend that is throwing me my shower is doing one... I don't get it either because don't you glue the diapers together or something or do they just bundle them together so you can take it apart to use?

  • Diaper cakes serve a very important purpose... without them, we wouldn't be able to tilt our heads and ask "WTH???"  And then where would we be?  The same with the 'guess the candy bar in the diaper' and 'TP around the mom's belly'.  Without those things, we wouldn't have anything to wonder 'what the he77 is wrong with some people' about!

I made one for my sister I just rolled them up and used rubberbands to hold them together

They are bundled together so you can use them.  And the ones you order...the diapers are no good!  They are stiff and rough.  I'm not a fan.

The way I make my diaper cakes you roll each diaper individually and put a rubber band around it.  Then you put a large rubber band around the ring of diapers.  They can easily be used again.

Personally I like them.  They are cute and add some decoration to the party. My sister made one for my party and it's a baseball theme.  It's super cute.  Everyone has their own preferences though.

  • I think it's people's way of making diapers a cute gift. Just seems silly to me because now you have a ton of diapers that aren't in packages and have been all folded up and are not easily stored. Might as well use a used diaper on LO in my opinion.

Dude, your SIL is crazy.  Diaper Cakes came around during the cloth diaper era.  Granted, it might be too expensive to make one with cloth, but that's how they *started*.

  • Yep.  I am in FULL agreement - I do think the onesie clothing line is cute, especially if they have tutus or cowboy boots or something...  But diaper cakes - big no.  And who knows if that is the preferred brand of diaper for the baby?  Pampers were terrible for us, so was Target brand... pee just seeped straight through.  Other people swear by them.
  • Totally agree.  They just look silly and sound like a PITA to take apart.

  • I will try to explain my side of the diaper cake debacle.  I threw a shower for my cousin and made one huge and three small diaper cakes and used them as decoration.  Each diaper is rolled into a tube and secured with a rubber band.  That way they are still usable.  She got like 4 packages of diapers out of the deal.  Then I decorated it with all kinds of cute little things like onesies, teething rings, pacifiers, toys, etc.  I think they turned out really cute and got a ton of compliments on them.

So, to answer your question in the most long-winded fashion possible, I think it's just a different way to display the gift of diapers and other random stuff.   Maybe it's considered ugly or tacky to some, but it doesn't seem to be here.

In an effort to redeem some class and/or style points, you may be glad to know I did NOT do a clothesline with onesies, nor did we play the TP around the belly or the candy bar in the diaper games.

She's not very good at thinking out of the box .... I have a feeling people are going to buy us landfill diapers anyway, even though I've been saying for 2 years we are going to CD. Oh, well. That's what returns are for.

  • I agree 100%.  I also hate all things baby shower in general.  We will have no games, no measuring my belly, no candy in the diaper, etc.

  • I thought they were really cute until I got one and I had to take the whole thing apart and the diapers were all curly and I had to throw them all loose and messy in my neatly organized drawer.
  • Thank you for this! I hate diaper cakes!!

  • I don't like them either and especially don't like all baby shower games...blech! Everytime I go to a baby shower I always say mine is going to have a full bar, just because the Mom to be can't drink doesn't mean the rest of the people have to suffer.  I don't plan on having a baby shower, but if we do it will NOT be traditional at all.
  • Baby showers are boring. I'm going to have male strippers at mine.

  • Don't worry.  I don't get it either.  I mean, you don't actually get more diapers than you would in a box/pack, right?  And do they think that you will display this somewhere???

  • Hate diaper cakes also.

At my shower we had a contest to see who could drink a beer through a bottle the fastest (That was funny ) & the poopy diaper game where you melt a variety of candy bars in numbered diapers & the guests have to guess what the candy bar is. It was hilarious to see everyone sniffing ^ tasting what looked like dirty diapers
