Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Rocking 9mth old for naps?

Anyone else still not able to put their LO in their crib and have them fall asleep on their own?? DS has to be asleep or he won't go down..DH always rocks him and I can't rock him-he hates when I sit to rock him to nap, so now that DH is back to work (was unemployed since DS was born) it's so hard for me to get him down. He's super tired, but fighting me and he thinks it's funny when we walk around the room or I rock him standing up...geez, this can be tricky sometimes.

Any advice? Am I alone??

Re: Rocking 9mth old for naps?

  • I have a horrible napper.

I don't rock him, but I will hold him tightly in my arms to get him to relax so he can fall asleep.  Once he falls asleep, I can lay him down in his crib.

  • You are not alone....see my post below!  DS used to be great about falling asleep on his own but now he won't unless we rock him to sleep.  We have to swaddle his arms to keep him calm.  He is SO active...always wanting to play even though he's tired.  I take the blanket off and lay him in the crib asleep.

I hope he starts being able to put himself to sleep again soon!

  • we still rock our LO to sleep too! I thought we were the only ones! he will NOT go to sleep drowsy but awake at home, but in daycare, does it all the time. WTF?!?! Indifferent
  • DS will be 10 months tomorrow and we have to hold him (not rock) before all naps and bedtime.  He has to be completely out or else he will immediately sit up in the crib.  He still wakes about 2-3X per night to be held.  I'm hoping he figures out drowsy but awake before baby # 2 comes in September!!!  Oh, and he's not a big fan of ferber!

  • DD is still bounced/rocked to sleep for every nap and often at bedtime. She is a good napper and STTN so its hard to complain.
