NBR - Recommend your Vacuum!

Hey ladies! We got a cheap vacuum last year when we got married and now we need to get one that is better. I'm looking for one that is very lightweight and that has an attachment to make for easy stairway cleaning. One that will help with my allergies (dust, etc.)

TIA!

Re: NBR - Recommend your Vacuum!

  • I have a Dyson animal and think it was 100% worth every penny.  (BTW... I got it on overstock.com for like 35% off with free shipping.)

  • We got the purple Dyson for our wedding... the special allergy/pet hair model. It is amazing!! Expensive, but worth every penny.

They usually have 10% Best Buy coupons in those address change packets at the post office, and Best Buy matches competitor's prices.

  • DH and I just bought a Kirby. It was expensive, but it works awesome!! Cleaning is so much easier now. Plus, it has a lifetime warranty.

  • I love my Dyson! I have never had a vacuum that picks up pet hair like it does. Easy attachments too. But I hate how expensive they are. We got ours as a wedding gift.

  • We just bought an Oreck XL Platinum two weeks ago and I LOVE it! We had a cheapo from Target that never really worked. Our carpet looks amazing now. I liked Dyson vacuums, too, but they are way heavier than any of the Oreck models. Orecks have HEPA filtration systems in them which help with allergies, etc.
  • DH and I got the purple dyson as a wedding gift and LOVE IT!!!  We would have gotten it ourselves if we didnt receive it as a gift.  I have a lab that SHEDS and it works great on getting all the dog hair up.

There is an Oreck store nearby that I was thinking of looking at. :)

  • We have a Dyson Animal as well and it's the best vacuum I've ever had.  We have a Siberian Husky so we needed something heavy duty for our house with all the shedding she does.  Agreed with the PP, worth every penny!
  • another vote for dyson animal.

they are pricey but worth it.  take a 20% off coupon to bed bath and beyond to save some $$ on it.

  • Bissell Pet Hair Eraser.  LOVE it.  We've certainly put it to the test with five dogs and it's held up well for almost 3 years.

I would definitely recommend going by. The vacuum I got is self propelled and soooo light... they demonstrate how it can pick up all sorts of stuff for you, etc.

  • I see everyone reccommending the super expensive vacs. A friend has a Kirby and her bags are sooo expensive. Another friend has a Dyson and it quit on her after 18 months. Mine is a $120 bagless Eureka with a power paw attachment. The attachment is really great because it has a flipping guard that lets you do the rise and the run of the stairs without breaking your wrist. It gets sooo much beagle fur out of our carpet. The filters last forever and are actually washable so you're not spending a fortune there, either. You can get it at Target or Walmart.

  • We have a Rainbow, which it AMAZING!! We also have an Oreck (sp?) that does pretty good for in between jobs. We have a very furry dog, so the rainbow does wonders for the animal hair!!
  • I have the smaller Dyson Ball. I love it! We only have carpet in the bedrooms, but it's very lightweight and not at all messy when emptying.

I have the same Eureka with the power paw attachment and I LOVE it, it is the best I have ever used. Picks up all the fur from my *** hound and she seems to shed a lot! I had been using my older (4 yrs old so not too old) vac (that I spent about $300 on) every single day on my carpet and I only have one carpet the rest is hardwood so it wasnt overused, and it didnt seem to be doing such a hot job, so i got the Eureka, man the first time I used it it picked up SO much hair and dirt and that was after using my other vac everyday. The carpet looked brand new after one use with the Eureka

  • We have the purple Dyson, and it is great. It's heavy, and kind of a pain to lug up and down the steps. BUT....it's amazing and I am always fascinated to see how much it picks up! Gets me every time.
  • I have the #1 rated (on Consumer Reports) Kenmore from Sears.  It's about half the price of a Dyson.

  • Dyson DC17 Animal.

Makes vacuuming the couch SO easy - and the majority of our floors are hardwood and it works perfect on those as well.  Cuts my floor/couch cleaning time in half.

I have the regular yellow Dyson (not the ball) and I freaking LOVE it. It was worth every.single.penny. I've had it for almost 3 years now.

You can often find them at Big Lots (refurbished) for about $100 less than Target, etc.

We bought ours from the Oreck store so we can get it serviced for the first 2 or 3 years without paying. Good luck with your purchase:)
