Fertile friend's "advice" makes me wanna throatpunch

So our best friends in the area started TTC the same time we did. They got pregnant the first try - good for them. 18 months and 2 mc later we're having dinner, talking about ttc and DH mentions I may not be O-ing now. (Yep - we're all kinds of tmi with each other).

HER (All smiles all glowy): OPKs are EXACTLY what you need!

ME: Umm, yeah. They don't really work for me (don't want to get into the multiple reasons JUST using OPKs doesn't work for some women).

HER: Oh no. The ONLY time they don't work is human error! How are you using them? (MEANING - What are you doing wrong?)

ME: Mumble, mumble. Something incoherent... Oh look! The food is here!

It pissed me off! They got pregnant so easily (claiming to) having sex 9 times in 3.5 days, using non-sperm-friendly lube, banking ONLY on opks, etc... and again, I really AM glad it worked for them. But forgive me if I'm not going to take your advice.

And yes, I fully realize 99% of my righteous indignation is actually jealousy. Whatever.

    this.  If that were true there would be a lot of women with struggles buying stock in OPK's. 

    DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.

    Only if you shove that glittery "baby dust" the internet cheapies include... that's actually ute nose candy... makes it all happy and cooperative.

    Seriously - I was so glad the food came. She's a great friend and I knew I'd end up being bitchy if I tried to explain all the multiple reasons they can be inaccurate... and worse, I knew she'd be smiling and nodding and thinking, "Yes but I got a baby using this. Clearly I'm the one who knows more."

    I'm SO glad to know this! I'm going to run out and buy more now! Even though the 8 I peed on this month didn't show ovulation at ALL! 

    ugh. 

    m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks). and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers). IUI#1 and #2: BFNs Super lucky to be buddies with Peetie. Our out of nowhere, surprise DD born 5/29/2011

    You were peeing on them wrong, duh. You need BGP's super helpful friend to teach you how.

    She should be a reproductive endocrinologist!!!!  That's worse than my SIL telling me I should be drinking full fat dairy to get pregnant.

    I love all the friendly advice, who needs an RE??...............here, I'll share the advice I got earlier today via email from my friend :
     
    "Try not to stress about the outcome too much, I swear the less you stress the better you are at getting pregnant. "
     
    So maybe taking the above advice and adding the advice of your friend this will be sure to get you KU!
     
    If only their simple solutions would work!!!!   ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

    oh boy, the fertile friend advice, don't ya love it!  i always get well as soon as you stop stressing it will happen.  umm, ok, if she only knew what it was like to actually have to "try" to have a baby.  coming from someone who has 3 kids under 4 and never had to try, it would just happen for them.

    Well just make sure they are digital OPK's.  I switched to those this cycle so I'm definitely getting a BFP - I mean how could I could go wrong with one of those????

    Aw, I know how you feel. A friend of mine last year emailed me and asked me if I had ever heard of preseed. Well of course I knew about it! And I'd be happy to tell her more about it, in case she and her DH were thinking of using it!

    Well, her reply back was that she knew about it because that helped her get PG (surprise!) and wanted to make sure she passed on the good news of it to me, since she knew we were having trouble.

    Good intentions, but still...

    I didn't know opk's were the miracle cure for everyones issues getting pregnant. You should have told her you were using them like a thermometer and see how she responds since she thinks it's human error.
