Maybe moving to the area. Any advice?

My Dh is in the Navy and we may be getting orders to move to North Chicago.

1.  Can you give me any advice on where is a good place to live.

2.  Good Day Care?  How much does it cost?

3.  I am a surgical tech.  Any good hospitals or surgery centers that you can recommend?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.  I would like to stay out of the city if that helps.  Thanks so much!!!

  • I would go just South of North Chicago to Highwood/Highland Park.  They have good schools.

There are nice hospitals in Highland Park and Lake Forest, which wouldn't be too bad.

  • Hi there! I agree with the PP, Highwood, Highland Park, Northbrook, Libertyville, even Gurnee would be MUCH better than North Chicago. (I grew up in N.C. so I'm pretty familiar with the place) There's a V.A. Hospital in North Chicago, and most of the surrounding cities have major hospitals in them as well. I think the big surgical Hospitals are further south like Lutheran General.

Daycare is going to vary anywhere you go. Are you looking for a daycare center or an inhome type daycare? Chances are good, if you're looking at daycare centers, they will be more like a Bright Horizons type place in Northbrook (This might be our choice for daycare)

I'd be more than happy to chat if you'd like more info. You can email me at tmulder3 at netscape dot net.
  • North Chicago is not a good area. I would look into Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Gurnee or Grayslake. Highland park is very exspensive, great schoools but very costly! Daycare will vary but there are a ton of centers all over. As far as hospitals you could check out Condell, Lake Forest, or Highland Park ENH. GL!
