Oregon Babies

Portland Visit

Hi all,

I would really appreciate your help.  We are planning to drive to drive to Portland from SF next month.  We will be bringing our 3 months old baby.

What are some of baby friendly places that we can do there besides the zoo?  Also, what area/ hotel would be good for us to stay at?

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Re: Portland Visit

  • There's a Portland bio, I don't know where though...sorry!

I would take your baby to Multnomah Falls, it's so pretty!

As far as hotels, I would stay downtown (so you can walk around easily). Everything in portland is close by, it's a 30 minute drive to anything basically.

I would NOT stay in the Lloyd Center/Convention Center/Rose Garden area. There's a few hotels over there but it's not a nice area at night.  I would also not stay North of Burnside Road if you do decide to stay downtown, the "Chinatown" area is known for lots of homeless people at night, there are several shelters right in there.

I second the downtown hotels. My favorites are the Embassy Suites Downtown, Hotel Monaco, and the Paramount.

If you're here during the weekend, you should walk around the Saturday Market, which is open all weekend and has crafts, food, and some music. It is family friendly, though you might have an easier time with a baby carrier than a stroller (not sure what you normally use).

  • Thank you so much for the information.  I'm looking forward to our trip to Portland.
  • See bio for link to thePortlandBio and more information about Oregon, since you're driving.

If your 3 month old is pretty mellow, you can take him/her just about anywhere. A more active / loud baby, you need to be more careful.
