i delivered 4/2 (and today is 4/6) and i still havent pooped yet- im terrified that the longer i wait the worse it will be. i havent had the urge to go, i thought i did once but i didnt have to. i have a 3rd degree midline episiotomy to boot... ive been taking a stool softener. plus i still dont have the urge to pee yet (im guessing my bladder took a beating..) but when i sit down to go i am able to, so im not concerned about that yet.
any wisdom or words of advice??
Re: terrified of my 1st PP poop, any advice?- TMI
I delivered on a Tuesday and had my first poop the following Sunday... my advice is take the stool softeners!! i cried.. =( not to scare you.. but take your time.. and this might be TMI.. but when I finally felt like I was going to go or needed to go.. I would sit down and then stand up and sit down and stand up until it came out... it helped ALOT...
I also had a 3rd degree... and the hospital wouldnt let me leave until I peed 3 times.. did you do that?? I even peed the bed once =( because I didnt ever have the urge it just happened...
Stool softener is good. Don't try to force anything make sure you have enough time to go (I went right after bf). My mom suggested I take a pain reliever an hour before I went, and I think it helped. Other than that, just do it. It's no worse than the pain you're probably feeling from your episiotomy (at least mine wasn't) and you'll feel so much better after it's over.
thanks for the sitting/standing advice!!
they measured my urine output until i had reached a specific number. the first time it was just a little bit, like droplets. the next time i went i nearly filled the collection bin thing so i was all cleared and didnt have to measure anymore. how long until the urge to pee came back?
maybe like a week PP.. but then i still had accidents.. i just barely quit wearing a pad.. i had never had a cath. before either if that makes a difference.. and sometimes it even burned when i peed up until about 4 weeks PP!!!
I agree on the stool softeners and fiber. Don't try to push it; it'll be much easier if you wait until you're ready to go. I felt like I had to go yesterday in the hospital, but didn't end up going until this morning. The idea of it is much scarier than reality, although that might be easy for me to say since I only had a first degree tear with both deliveries.
Mine wasn't bad at all the but woman I was sharing a room with was scared of her first PP poo (she had a 10lb ?oz baby and tore pretty bad) and her mom and grandma came in and gave her tons of stuff with fiber in it, she ate it all and also took the stool softeners the nurses were giving her and she ended up not having too much of a problem. She said it did hurt though, she just put an ice pack on it for a while afterward and she was fine.
I don't know about other hospitals but the one I went to wont discharge you until you've pooped twice. They say its to "make sure your body is working the way it should when you leave".
