Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I broke one of my cardinal rules last night

I picked her up after I put her to bed. Usually I put her in bed half awake with her lights and sounds mobile. She always cries for about 5 minutes and then goes straight to sleep. Even if she stands up in the crib and wails for a few minutes, it never takes long, and if it does, I go in, soothe and lay her back down.

Last night I peeked in after about 20 minutes of her being relatively quiet. She was sitting up against the side...just sitting there whimpering and hiccuping. Broke my heart so I went in and brought her out to sit on the couch with me for a while. I NEVER pick her up once I've put her down. She went right to sleep once I held her. Sometimes even mommies break the rules...hopefully I haven't started any sort of habit for her!

  • I would have done the same thing. I doubt you've started any bad habits.

  • Aw, that would have broke my heart too. I wouldn'y worry about it being a new habit though.
  • I would have done the same exact thing. I can't stand to hear DD cry or whimper.
  • awww...I wouldn't of been able to resist either.

I broke my rule this morning. I'm no co-sleeping anymore since I'm trying to get Jake to sleep in his crib. Well, he got up at 4am, would not settle back into his crib, finally at 6am, I brought him back to bed with me and we both slept until 9am.

A little treat never hurt anyone!

  • If she had her lip poked out like in the second pic of your siggy I would have picked her up too!

  • Awww poor girl was probably just irritated with the hiccups! I totally visualize her with that pout in the corner just waiting for them to go away.

  • Aww. Maybe she just needed more of her mommy last night. I'm sure it's not starting a bad habit. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow, rules be dammmed!
  • I've come to the conclusion that if they normally go to sleep by themselves then they need something if they cry. DS got up around 12 last night so I gave him a little Tylenol since he's sick and laid him down. After about 3 minutes of crying I decided to feed him....he took 4 oz and went to sleep without a sound.

Maybe your LO just wanted a little comfort.

  • Dont feel bad.  She just needed a litlte extra love last night.  I always said I would never let the girls sleep in our bed.  And I have already had Ava do it twice.  It was the only way any of us would get sleep those nights.  And she is still able to sleep in her crib with no problems.

  • If she cries longer than 5 minutes I just absolutely can't stand it. Plus I know she's probably not going to go to sleep on her own anyway at that point. DH wasn't home or he would have said, "She's fine. Leave her."

The pout gets me everytime. Plus it's hard to not justify picking her up when she snuggles into me and goes right to sleep. I can't deny it makes me feel good to know I have that effect on her...haha.

  • i would have done the same thing! if DD ever cries when being put to bed, i know somethings wrong, or she just needs a little extra comfort. no harm done.

I was thinking the same thing! ?

  • I take my bebe to cuddle in bed or on the couch before I put her down for the night about once a week and she doesn't expect it every night...no worries.
