Houston Babies

Confession...

My mom has been here since the day after we got home from the hospital but she leaves this Friday. I'm a little freaked out about being all alone during the day now since DH only got a week off work. My parents have been such a great help...my dad left yesterday and when they were both here groceries, meals, errands, laundry, housekeeping were all done while I nursed...how will I do it all without them? Heck, they even made sure Spike got two walks a day. Can't she just stay for a few more months?

Re: Confession...

  • I hear you. My mom is leaving next week and I don't even want to think about it. She's so good with Elena! and Elena is so much calmer when my mom is holding her. I think the baby knows who's the expert and who's the newbie.

  • Girl, my mom lived with us for two months (I had a lot ~ a LOT ~ of blood loss during delivery and the nurses told me no way was I to do anything but eat, sleep, and nurse Charlotte), and when she started weaning (LOL) off of living here, I was SO scared.  Like, terrified.  But, you just sorta figure it out, I promise.  It is scary, though, I won't lie.

But listen, I live SO CLOSE to you, and I am happy to come over and watch little miss Layla while you shower, nap, go run errands, etc.  Seriously.  Or, just come over and chat with you so that you don't feel scared!  Really, please email or call me if you want me to come by.  I would be glad to.

  • I cried like a baby when my mom left! Maybe it was the baby blues, but it was tough, but after a few days, you'll get it.  Big Smile
  • My mom was here for 2 weeks and I remember feeling terrified of her leaving. But I promise, it gets easier and it'll be like second nature to you in no time.  You'll do great!
  • I went into full panic mode when I was left home alone the first week.

My mom stayed for week 1, my dad and step-mom stayed during week 2 and then my in-laws came and stayed part of week 3.

My family did everything for us including cooking, laundry and even they woke up and fed him at his 2 am feedings so I could rest.

It was so much help and especially since I was recovering from a c-section.

I remember when my dad and step-mom left I cried for a few hours and begged them to stay!!

My mom did call all the time and said she would come over but I really needed to figure out things for myself.

You will get through it though and get rest when you need to and call and ask for help when you need to.

  • I cried like a baby when my mom left after a month!! But it gets easier each day, I promise! And I felt proud of myself that I was able to do everything on my own for 12+ hours a day!

And ditto Liz, please call me if you need anything at all!! I will email you next week and try to stop by...while Rena is in school! ;)

  • I totally understand!  My mom was with me the first week home and then DH was home the next 2.  I was a little nervous about him going back to work and me being all alone but in the end I was a little excited about the quiet time.  I'd do ok until about 4pm...then I'd just get bored.

Plus, the weather was horrible when I was off so I got very few walks with C.  That sucked.  Enjoy the weather!

  • It's hard, but you'll do it.

Accept that there are things (like, general around the house upkeep stuff) that isn't going to get done - or at least not anytime soon.  And if you don't already, shower at night when J is home to take care of her rather than trying to find a moment to shower in the morning/during the day.
