Babies: 9 - 12 Months

vacation in one hotel room

..If there have been posts on this before, I apologize. I just found out we're going on vacation in a month and we will be in a single hotel room the entire time, not a condo or a house.  For those who have done this, what did you do at night when LO went to sleep?  DD's bedtime is about 8:00.  What the heck do DH and I do after she goes to sleep?  Did y'all just sit there and look at each other? Read?  I don't think our hotel room will have a balcony.

  • Will there be other ppl, like family members, staying at the hotel, too or is it just you, DH and LO?

  • DD sleeps through TV noise, but I would read and maybe just go to bed early!

  • "IT", just kidding, watch TV, bring cards, games, unpack, stuff like that.  You might find yourself long over due for rest though.  I know I could use it.

Nope, just the three of us :)

  • Sadly if there is no balcony, then we head to bed at the same time. However, in those instances the kids generally go to bed a little later than normal.

  • We got a suite so there is a bedroom and then a small living room area with a couch.  There is a door between the bedroom and living room area so we put DS to bed at 7:30 like normal and then just watched tv in the living room.  DS will sleep through tv noise though so if it was just a single room we would probably wait a little bit till he was sounds a sleep and then watch tv on a lower volume.

Hmm well that spoils my idea then :)

If your LO will let you then I'd watch tv, read, play cards, bring a laptop, etc.  Maybe it will be a great chance for you to catch up on sleep! Something we always claim to never get enough of :)

  • Once my daughter is asleep for about 20 mins...she is out.  She sometimes wakes up at the beginning of her next sleep cycle but not all of the time.  I did it by myself for ten days.  We were in a sprinhill suites...and there was like half a wall separating us.  I brought her sleep sheep...and I kept her bedtime routine (bath and singing).  I then turned off all of the lights and let her sleep.  They had small reading lights...and after she was asleep for fifteen minutes I would turn the reading light on...after I realized she was staying asleep I actually started watching tv by the end of the week.  I still brought my monitor so I could take my shower at night.  Seriously it was extremely relaxing and my daughter did really well.  It was nice having everything organized and someone cleaning my room everyday.

  • We did that for 3 nights when DS was 6 months and that is the last time we'll do it. The first night, we sat in the dark sharing headphones & watching shows on DH's laptop. Then the light from that started waking DS up as well, so we had to go to bed at 7pm for the rest of the trip. It was a bit of a nightmare really. But it depends on how heavily your LO sleeps - when DS was younger, it wasn't an issue at all coz he slept through TV, lights, talking, etc. no problems.
  • Oh lord.  This is what I'm hoping won't happen. . . She is NOT a heavy sleeper.  This set-up def. wouldn't be my choice.  DH is presenting research at a fancy conference and they're paying for the room in a hotel that we'd NEVER be able to afford for an extended period of time.

Thanks ALL for the feedback.  I think I'll bring her BC machine and we'll get a few good books.  Maybe it will be nice to go to bed early for a change.
