This is kind of a long story, but I went to the doctor on Friday to discuss what I thought were just baby blues. I just wanted to let my doctor know how I was feeling, and be reassured that I was going to be ok eventually. Well, my doctor wasn't in. I saw another doctor who immediately said I had PPD and gave me zoloft. It really threw me, because I didn't think you could diagnose PPD so soon after delivery (my baby was only 9 days old).
I didn't think I was depressed, but I took one zoloft on Friday night. That evening and the next day I felt like I was going crazy. I was in a constant state of panic/anxiety. I couldn't eat or sleep, I couldn't even have a conversation with my husband. I just wanted to crawl in a hole and die. As the evening continued (and the medicine started wearing off) I felt more like myself.
Today, I feel generally ok, but I'm still having random moments of panic. Could this be some of the medicine that's left in my system? And has anyone else had such an extreme reaction to zoloft before?
Re: zoloft caused extreme panic attacks?
I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and have been on pretty much every anti-anxiety or anti-depressant on the market. And yes, sometimes they basically cause what they are supposed to cure. I would discontinue the medication, because if you even need Zoloft, you definitely don't need that dosage. Also, follow up with your doc ASAP.
And, I missed your birth story/coming over, but congrats!!

Was prescribed Zoloft for PPD with my first son. Self-weaned by 6 weeks post partum because I HATED the way I felt on it -- I'd take the PPD over the side effects any day.
I've been on Prozac for this pregnancy, and will be on it 6 mos. post partum, and have been MUCH happier with the results. I feel totally like me while on it -- even at 2 different dosage levels.

I took Zoloft right after we lost our daughter and it did a big fat nothing for me. I know that it also takes like 12 days for the stuff to kick in... Now, I am on Prozac and felt a difference immiedately. I don't know if anti-d meds affect people differently or if perhaps you just didn't take them long enough to really show any affect on you.
None the less, I hope you find some relief. Panic attacks can be pretty tough.
GL!
Even if it takes days for the stuff to kick in, there is NO WAY I could care for my newborn feeling the way I did. I was lucky it happened on a weekend when my husband was home, because I could not physically function enough to take care of our daughter. I mean, he brought her to me so I could nurse her, but that was it. He had to do everything else.
Also, I didn't feel that way before I took the zoloft. I had some mild anxiety, but nothing compared to how I felt when I took that pill. Yuck.
