Kitchen and Living room are finally done!!!!!

brand new kitchen!!! new wood floors from kitchen to living room... new base boards... new appliances... and new paint...

it took total of may be 10days spread out in 3 weeks period of time but now it's all over now!!!

had a pre-term labor contractions in the middle of floor installation but other then that everything turned out great! and baby is still in!!!

shower is this weekend, may be then it will finally hit me for good that we are having a baby! so far we have nothing for the baby... other then crib and changing table at my mom's place... so I guess depending on what I get at the shower I am looking forward to a shopping spree at BRU next week...

any advise on must haves for the baby and me, during or after delivery?

Re: Kitchen and Living room are finally done!!!!!

  • During delivery, we used nothing out of my hospital bag. Nothing.  And I packed very carefully, doing research on various internet sites, etc.  The hospital provided everything.

After delivery, I used my toiletries to shower, makeup to make me feel pretty again, slippers/socks. I would recommend bringing some parenting books since you'll have some downtime, yummy food in case hospital food sucks, and an iPod or some other source of entertainment.  I didn't bring a robe, but I would recommend one.  Oh, and I BF in the hospital so My Brest Friend was very handy.

For baby, we only needed a change of clothes and a thin receiving blanket for the ride home.

I kind of miss the hospital stay!  It was so nice having the hospital staff oncall and feeling as though help is just a button away.  Once I got home, I felt a little lost (but don't worry, this passes).

Oh yeah, one more thing. I would recommend a butt pillow like a boppy cuz you'll be sore down there.  I used the travel pillow for airplanes (the mini boppy lookalike)

  • How exciting? We remodeled our kitchen before J was born and it was the best decision ever!

Have fun at your shower this weekend :)

For the hospital - I did bring a nursing gown to wear after J was born (I did not want to wear the hospital gowns).
I NEVER used my ipod, read my magazines.
I mostly just watched movies (and of course the Cubs were on, so my hubs had to watch that).
I brought sleepers for J to wear in the hospital so he didn't have to wear their provided clothes.

For Home - make sure you have a boppy. Those are great for nursing.

This is what I was not prepared for (it had been 12 years since my last child, so I forgot a lot!):
    my milk coming in.
I was so uncomfortable - it wasn't that painful, but did hurt. I had to call my hubs to bring home stuff for me from the store. But the best thing was putting cold cabbage on them (only put it around - not directly on). It was the only thing that made me feel better. They do have these donut gels you can get - but they are so bulky and don't get as cold as the cabbage.

    It's getting close!!!!!
  • During the hospital stay, bring comfy clothes for the couple days after delivery. A robe, sweats, slippers. ALso, bring some of your favorite junk food. You'll really need it after labor! The hospital should give you everything for baby.

After delivery, make sure you're stocked up on pads for the bleeding. It will last a few weeks. And have some tylenol or painkillers in case you get stitches.

Post some pics of the new kitchen!

  • I didn't take a robe and wished I'd had one, since the nurses made me walk around forever trying to get things moving... that is about all I wish I'd brought from home.  I had a bag packed to the brim with all the stuff they recommend: hard candy to suck on, iPod, night gown for the next night, slippers, blahblahblah... I didn't need, nor even think, about those things.

I went with the hospital gowns- because I bled a lot (and eventually all over my hospital gown- tmi, but yeah, seriously).

For my second trip when it comes around, all I am bringing is:
    - Camera
    - Baby book (for footprints, etc.)
    - Nursing cover
    - Boppy
    - Make up
    - My own toiletries

Thats just my $.02!  Good luck- these last few weeks are going to fly by!

  • Oh- and make sure you bring an extra bag to take home ALL of the pads they give you, the mesh underwear and diapers!
