One of my good friends is in her 1st tri and is a nurse in the OB/Gyn OR at our hospital. My doc is a resident, as are our DHs, so we all "know of" each other socially and see each other at events, etc. plus, keep in mind she works with my doc a ton. She had a scare and had to go in to L&D triage right after a run, VERY unkempt downstairs (her words). She gets there and it's my doc plus 2 male med students who examine her and apparently the whole time he's explaining stuff to these guys. Fortunately everything is going to be okay.
So, if that isn't embarrassing enough, we were out with these friends at an Easter thing yesterday and see my doc there. Both of us tried to avoid him, b/c I know the story and that she's embarrassed, but my clueless DH is like "Oh, hey, it's so and so, let's say hi!" She was SO red and DH asked what her deal was when we got home. I told him a modified version of the story and he was all "eh, she's a nurse!" I personally am not embarrassed to speak to my doc at social stuff, but I understand since she has to work with him and now he thinks she's a jungle woman all the time. Would you be too embarrassed to see a doc you knew socially?
Re: my friend's embarrassing moment
Wow. I can't imagine my doc caring if I'm a jungle woman.
But I generally don't understand how shy a lot of folks are about showing up at the doc's ungroomed. I'm a *totally* hairy girl, and before the pregnancy I got regular brazilian waxes. But once I got pregnant I got really sensitive down there and stopped. I trim down there with clippers when I get the chance, but really, it doesn't matter at all! Why would a doctor care about this?

Maybe it's b/c I'm older. Back in the stone age (late 80s/early 90s
) when I was in HS/College no one got Brazilian waxes. We'd just shave or wax the stuff that would stick out of our bikinis in the summertime.
So I still kinda feel like it's optional. I think younger folks may get more embarrassed about being furry.

I live in a small town, before I moved here I was in a large city and most of my friends were residents. I refused to see them or any other Dr. I knew personally
Now I don't have that choice esp. since my husband works with all of them. It's not so bad, but I do prefer anonymity.
This business of obsessing about a little hair drives me nuts. Its normal and womanly to have pubic hair. People who shave it or wax it all off freak me out a little - its a bit too much like a little girl. Certainly trim it to prevent it from sticking out and to make oral a little more comfy but get over it!
