Overheard this baby advice

I think it's pretty darn bad advice, but I didn't say anything, it's non of my business but I was surprised to hear it

Girl #1: My baby doesn't really like her formula, I think she doesn't like the taste

Girl#2: Just add flavored syrup to the bottle, chocolate or strawberry, they will drink it right up

Girl #1: Great idea, I didn't think of that

OK, now I know that some children have weight issues, my son did, so flavoring the milk is sometimes OK when they are older if it's necessary to gain weight, but I had to bite my tongue with this one. Maybe in extreme cases it's OK, I don't know, but I thought that was terrible advice.

  • That is bad bad advice. I would have probably said something like "You should probably ok that with your pedi just to be sure."

  • Yeah, cuz adding chocolate or strawberry syrup to a baby's diet sounds like an incredible idea. Huh?

They looked young, under 30 maybe, but not that young, that's why I was surprised. Maybe we are missing something here, should I add a shot of Kahlua to my toddlers milk?

  • Not to mention the terrible advice if they do that a couple of times and then find out it's very wrong the baby may refuse to eat regular milk for quite some time thats scary.
  • I would change formula before I started adding artificial flavorings to it!
  • Wow, that never even crossed my mind! Ugh, some people.

  • Urrgg! That is terrible advice! Ya let's all get our babies hooked on sugar! Whoo! Ya, just as good of advice as putting booze in their milk to get them to sleep! Oh my, some people . . .
  • My daughter drings carnation instant breakfast, per doctors orders and she is nearly 2. I wish they just had a plain, non flavored version of the stuff b/c I don't want her to think she has to have flavored milk. Luckily she preferes plain milk. I would never EVER dream of putting it in formula though. That is ridiculous. Do you know how old the baby was?
  • Wow. And people actually wonder why childhood obesity is on the rise.

  • That has got to be the worst baby advice I have heard in a LONG time...WOW.
  • Wow, in formula? My pedi did tell me that I could add flavored syrup to my 3 yr old sons milk and slowly decrease it, but he is 3, not a baby!!!

Not sure, they definitely said formula though, so I am assuming the baby is under a year old.

  • Yeah, horrible advice. I've heard mom's tell other mom's all sorts of bizarre advice. Once I was at the post office with DD when she was about 6 months old. She was chewing on a teething ring and a woman in the line behind me told me that I should give her a chicken wing instead - said it was the best thing for a teething baby! What? A chicken wing? OMG!
