About how much do you pay?

I'm looking for work but once I find a job I need to act fast about arranging for childcare for my son. My Mom might be able to watch him max 2 days a week which leave me with three days. I was thinking of asking a friend who I knew from high school (has three kids but two are in school all day) who needs the $$$ but does not want to work full time. I was looking to pay her off the books.   It would probably be for a 8 -9 hour day three days a week? How much a month do you think is reasonable?

Re: About how much do you pay?

  • I have 2 different arrangements, i'm part time but my sched changes quite a bit.  I have a 28 yo woman who comes to my house and I give her $10 hr, sometimes a bit more for a 10 mo old.  Then there's a licensed daycare provider down the block from me who watches a few kids in her home.  She charges $35 for up to 6 hrs and then $45 for up to 9 hrs.  She has 3 other kids that she watches @ the same time.   That was a PT quote and FT would be less...I was surprised, I thought it was kind of on the low end.  HTH!

Well I  what you do by bringing your daughter to someone's house and she watched other kids is of course going to be cheaper that in a regular daycare center where there is more overhead. They call this Group Family or In home care according to the Nassau County Child Care Council. The downside is that if something happens there are not as many people who are witness to what is going on and they are probably not as regulated. Also if the one or twp providers that are there are sick you need back up care. The plus is that there are less children which means less expsure to illness ( as you probably alreadyl know). $10 an hour for someone to come to your house to watch your child is excellent - I think it is starting for our region. I'm in Rockville Centre, where are you?

$10/hr seemed to be average, I practice up by Dix Hills and the ladies up there seem to get the same amount.  I'm in Bay Shore though which is definitly a LCOL area compared to RC.

The daycares around here won't do PT until DD is 18 mos old.  Kind of annoying, but I like the smaller setting all the same.  Eh..I try not to fill my head with useless info...Anyways our accountant suggested going with a licensed facility so we can use it as a write off.  If you're licensed you have to follow certain regulations..that's the point of being licensed.  She has a whole set up.  Her she put an entire addition on her home that she uses strictly for daycare.  She has little kiddy tables and all that other fun day care "stuff" except only 4 kiddos.  i'm not so much worried about witnesses..I would never leave dd anywhere that that was even on my mind.   My dh is off during the day so it's not terribly inconvenient it either is not available.  It's just nice for him to keep his sleep cycle consistent.
