i think even if you are standing there they can fall. dh had addie roll off his chest once, he caught her face down on his arm.
when addie was getting out of the car once she fell, i caught her with my palm on her teeth. i felt horrible, it might have hurt less falling to the ground.
and yes we had the fall off the bed one with no one catching her. i feel awful looking back but she was smiling on the floor when i got to her
I just turned to get his pacifier. I swear I had just turned my head and then he was on the ground. :-( He was up and crawling and laughing only moments later, but he has a nasty bruise on his arm. I felt so terrible!
Joseph fell out of the bed in the E.R. DH and the respiratory tech were both standing right there with him and he just rolled off. It made me feel much less guilt when he fell off the couch a week later.
yep...Emmy fell off the bed 2 times. You would think I would have learned the first time after crying for hours of being a bad mom. We use to let her nap on the bed and put pillows around her, but I guess she would wake up without crying or us noticing and try to crawl "out/off" of bed.
The pedi told me to make sure I don't leave Ally alone and reminded me about Emmy. Fortunately...nothing happened to her and she's more concerned about the collar bone than head injuries.
I'm surprised Hannah wasn't brain damaged as a baby, between rolling off the bed/couch, learning to sit/walk on hardwood floors, and having an older brother who liked to push her down.

i'm in this camp.
also, my brother fell off the kitchen counter when he was like a year old. i set him up there and turned to the side, not even around, to grab his bag and he pitched right off and landed on his head.
ETA: and never mind falling- how about the two times (that's right, i did it twice) I was carrying Mathis on my hip and whacked his head on a door frame. awesome.
and i am guessing that the ppl who answered "no, never for 1 sec" probably have very new babies, definitely not more than one child, or possibly live in a bubble

This has happened to us a couple of times too. I have to remember that he's going to get banged up and he's bound to fall off something at some point. It hasn't happened yet but he's just now really learning to roll so I'm sure it's going to happen eventually...
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!
BFP with no treatment!
Not yet, but he also can't move yet. I have been assured, it will happen.
We're now at the point where Coop can't move, but will at any second. I have to constantly remind myself that he could roll over any day and I should leave him. But it's still really easy to forget and think I can just step away to grab something.
((however, I raised him above my head last week and may have accidentally bumped his head on the light fixture in his bedroom. Yes I'm tall and yes the ceiling is low. He never flinched and it wasn't a hard bump...mom of the year here!))

You know there are some perfect moms on here...at least in their own little minds.

Are you saying that people that post how perfect they are aren't really all that perfect!? *gasp* (thinking more of the national boards than Houston)

Maddie has fallen off our bed while taking a nap about 3 or 4 times (a few of those times were when she was a baby).
Ditto this. Rena moves around sooo much when she sleeps so this has happened several times. The first time was so traumatic...I called the doctor's office and they said it happens all the time.
My Mom was watching Abbie once and left her on the laundry room counter, turned around to get something out of the dryer and she rolled off. She scraped the entire back of her head and neck on the laundry basket there. We took her to the doc because we couldn't stop her from crying, but she was fine. My Mom on the other hand was in bed crying the rest of the day. She slept in a queen bed from 18 months too so there was plenty of rolling off.
This past weekend we went to see my 12 day old nephew and DH was changing his diaper. I was walking through the hallway when he was coming out of the room without the baby saying I'm just going to wash my hands. Haha. I was like, are you crazy, you can't leave the baby on the pad on top of the dresser alone! So, I'm sure this next one will have tons of bumps and bruises too. :-P
last year on july 4th i put dd down on the changing pad, which is on her dresser, then turned around to turn her bedroom light on. it was only a split second, and i turned as she was halfway to the floor. i tried to catch her but only managed to break her fall. she was just a bit shaken up and was fine after a few minutes. i was a complete wreck.
DS rolled from the couch and bed a couple times but DD has been the one. The first time she was on the bed and I was sitting looking right at them. She got up to lean to the nightstand to get a drink and lost her hand and hit the corner of the nightstand. She was stuck between the bed and nightstand so I thought she was crying because of that when I got her she had a big goose egg on her forehead (already swelled in the 3 sec it took for me to get her). I was so upset I called my MIL crying and she met us at the ER scared cause she couldn't understand a thing I was saying and was imagining the worst. Then a few weeks later she fell coming out of the shower with DH and has a little scar above her eye where she hit it on the metal part of the stand up shower. Then a few months later she was back in the ER as she fell out of the high chair with MIL. Her nickname is Bumpy. And here I thought the boy would be the worst of them )

It never happened to us bc I am always very, very careful...and paranoid. But, you have to keep in mind, when I was 35 weeks pregnant, my (then) 20 month old nephew fell down a flight of stairs, broke his femur in half, and was in a body cast for 6 weeks.....so I was, and am, extremely careful!! Joe is old enough now that he knows how to get on and off the bed etc and I am pretty sure he knows to stay put on the changing table at this age, so I don't worry as much anymore about him rolling off. He was a very wiggly baby and since his room is hardwoods, we were very careful with him anytime we changed him as a baby.

I second this about Elizabeth. She fell off way more things than Sarah ever did.

I have met many many perfect parents of one child. I have met no perfect parents of multiple children.

There. I said it.
