Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9-month old would not hold bottle or sippy cup

Well, she'll hold it only to play with it and pour formula on her head, but not drink from it. She also wouldn't drink from a sippy cup (I tried both the straw ones and the regulars. Any suggestions? Advice?

  • MIne won't either. Are they supposed to be at this age?

  • My girls are just started to hold their own bottles  but still need help keeping it at an angle.  For the sippy cup just keep introducing it.  I give it to them every night after dinner with just a little bit of water in it.  Mostly for practice.  I really like the ones with the straw.  Lauryn still seems more interested in chewing the handles.  Ava likes drinking from it though.  Just keep at it.  The more consistent, the better.

  • My DD will not hold the bottle for me.  She finally got the hang of a sippy cup in the last two weeks (after substantial investment in different kinds of sippy cups)! Just keep trying....
  • Keep trying.  Some babies never hold their own bottles and that's ok.  My kids never drank from sippies, no matter what kinds we tried, and they didn't figure out how to drink from a straw until 11 months old.
