If you waited until (approx.) 6 months to start solids, what progression did you follow? I'm especially wondering if anyone skipped cereal/oatmeal and went right to a fruit/veggie. Thanks for sharing
i waited until 6 1/2 mths as the girls were not really ready before then. We tried at 4 mths but it didnt work. Then at 6 mths, it just clicked. And I do not give them cereal as Lauryn could not tolerate it. So we started them on fruits and veggies only. Still not eating any cereal.

I waited til 6 mo. - started with rice cereal, then oatmeal, then sweet potato. I alternate b/w introducing fruits and veggies now. We moved to two meals a day around 6 mo. and 3 weeks. Now he gets oatmeal and fruit for breakfast and veggie for lunch. After we get thru all the stage 1 foods in a few weeks I'll introduce meats and do 3 meals of solids a day.
We skipped oatmeal for awhile ... started with avacado, banana, pears, prunes but then introduced oatmeal after a few weeks because our doc recommended it. Now, he eats practically everything and sometimes still has cereal (especially when we're on the go and he's eating jarred baby food that day).
We tried cereal just before 6 months, but he didn't care for it so we stopped. Just after 6 months we started with avocado and banana and then went from there.
One of the advantages of waiting until 6 months is that you don't have to be super careful with what you introduce and when you introduce it. Basically, as long as your baby won't choke on it and it isn't one of the "not before 1 year" foods, you can feed it at 6 months.
We started with banana -- I just bought organic bananas and mashed it with a fork for her first food. Now she's had banana, baby oatmeal, apple, pear, peas, apricots, mango, plum, carrots, sweet potato, and pumpkin. She's also had some finger foods -- puffs (Happy Baby organic), mum mums, and pasta (ditalini and couscous).
We waited. We started with rice cereal and it didn't go well so we moved on to peas a few days later. We started with those and then carrots, sweet potatoes and squash. We started fruits at about 7 months--bananas first. He loved everything until we got to green beans. He still isn't a huge fan of those.
We didn't do any meats till 8 months and he doesn't really like them. The only way we can get him to eat meat is in the form of Gerber's spaghetti or lasagna.
Now he's on mostly table foods. He still eats pureed bananas (if we don't have whole ones at home) and applesauce and a little bit of peaches or pears, but mostly it's regular food.
I think most people start at 6 months b/c it's recommended by pretty much every pediatric or health authority (AAP, WHO, etc.).
We skipped cereal. I read that breastfed babies do better starting with fruits b/c they're sweeter like BM. She did really well with them. She loves bananas and peaches. We tried rice a week or so ago, and she didn't like it - probably b/c it's so bland. We gave her bananas first. We just mashed them up really well, and she ate them right away.
We started at 6 months, but we did do cereal. Our pedi stressed the importance of cereal because of the iron. We never did rice, we went straight to oatmeal.
After oatmeal we went through yellow then green veggies and then fruits.
we waited until 6 months. we started with cereal, but she was not interested. So then we did yellow veggies, then orange veggies (where we found sweet potatoes-massive hit!), then green veggies then fruits. Our pedi told us to do this progression so that she would get used to the veggies before fruits, because with some kids if you do fruits before veggies they won't take veggies because they aren't as sweet.
I started mixing cereal in with her veggies early on because she is breastfed and I was worried about her iron and the cereal is iron enriched. So I wanted her getting the extra with the cereal. I still mix cereal in with all of her veggies or fruits because it's the only way she'll take cereal (I don't blame her-plain oatmeal or rice is so boring!)

I waited and I started with pureed veggies and fruits. I have slowly added oatmeal, b/c it's more filling. We do two meals a day with a little snack at the DCP.

I think a lot of people do that. I know we did.

We waited until 6 months too. His first food was avocado, which he didn't really like, but then we tried sweet potato, which was a big hit.
We skipped cereals altogether. Now at almost 10 months, DS eats almost all table/finger food, except for when he gets yogurt.
