Is everyone getting/using a convertible crib (the 4 in 1 kind, where it will convert to a toddler bed/day bed/twin or full bed)? You can't seem to throw a pacifier in a store without hitting one. Just debating price, value, longevity....
We went with a convertible crib. It just seems to make more financial sense in the long run. We got a Munire set (crib, nightstand, dresser) for DD and fully anticipate her using it for a very long time. I still have the bedroom set that my parents got me when I was 5 and it's still in surprisingly good condition.
We have the Munire convertible crib. I'm SO GLAD that we got a convertible.
DS was already climbing out of it and we had to convert the crib to the daybed w/ rails. So far so good. If we had just gotten a regular crib, it would be useless to us by 17 months. . . granted many kids stay in the crib until after 2 years, but if you happen to have a little daredevil, it might not work as long.
We're on the fence. We think we might just get a regular crib and use it for baby # 2 and get a big kid bed for #1 when s/he is ready.
My niece has a convertible crib and she chewed the rail so badly that I don't think they're going to want to use it at all as a bed frame now. Just something to keep in mind!

We spent a whopping $99 (plus tax) for an IKEA Gulliver crib. It's got clean, simple lines, doesn't have a drop down side, and can be converted into a daybed. It's absolutely perfect for us and we didn't break the bank on a piece of furniture that probably wouldn't be used for more than 3 or 4 years anyway.
We did the same as Superaunt. The way I look at it is I don't even know where we will be living in two years, let alone ,know what type of bedroom my child will want, ie superheros versus dinosaurs, or the size, etc. I just don't feel comfortable buying "investment" furniture at this age. But, I'm thrilled that it will convert to a toddler bed because again I think this could get us through about 4 years and then I will feel better about good furniture. Plus, if we have another one in a year or two they will be sharing a bedroom and they can both have that same bed.
Just a couple more thoughts- Etsy has really cute crib railing covers- just in case your LO is a chewer. Or you can get furniture refinished- we had to do that when our last movers dinged up one of our bedroom sets (of course, they paid for it too).
We got a convertible crib from BRU that was $249. I really don't see the need to spend much more than that. I looked at some of those $800 cribs and couldn't really see the difference. We figure our last child will actually be the only one to use it as a bed and I am sure it will make it.
