On formula. Now stomach problems

We just stopped breastfeeding & switched to formula. Using simliac advanced. Lo was fussy/gassy so hubby wanted to try "for fussy/gassy" after 24 hours lo's stomach is making very load grumble sounds. Like a full grown person... What should I do? He seems like he's in pain & I'm just sad for him and stressed with a fussy baby!

Re: On formula. Now stomach problems

  • Did you switch to Similac Sensitive or to Enfamil Gentlease?  We are BF, but LO gets supplemented with formula on occasion.  We started on regular Similac and had the same issues with gas.  Her pedi switched us to Gentlease and said it was easier on the tummy than Sim Sensitive.  Try Mylicon drops if you haven't already and if you didn't buy a big can of formula, maybe you can change.  Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • We did the same. Started on Similac Advanced to Similac Sensitive to Enfamil Gentlease (which she refused) to Good Start. Mylicon drops helped us a lot but we had to use them with every bottle while on Similac. We changed formulas because DD couldn't digest the protein in Similac. If you change formulas it may take a little more than 24 hours for improvement if the problem is within he intestines...all the old has to clear out before there can be improvement...BUT I would talk to a pediatrician. I listened to non-doctor advice when switching from breast milk/formula mixed to all formula and we had two weeks of HELL for it (because we were told it can take that long for a baby's digestive system to develop the amount of enzymes needed to digest formula). Then new formula and a new much happier baby within 36 hours...
  • DD had a hard time with Similac Advance.  We put her on Goodstart Gentle Plus and she is doing much better.  When she was on Similac Advance we had to give gas drops with each feeding.  We haven't had to do that with the new formula.  She still has some gas, but it doesn't seem as painful as it did before.  Before she would scream before each fart. So sad!  Good luck.
  • we have been on formula all along, but we had to switch from advance to similiac sensitive - they are def better, but DD is not 100%.  she still has a lot of gas and now I give her mylecon with every bottle.  DS is totally good with it.
