Non-stress test

How long does this usually take? I have my first one in two weeks. They just measure contractions, the baby's heart rate... anything else?

Re: Non-stress test

  • They can take as little as 20 minutes, it just depends on how reactive the baby is.  They want to see accelerations of at least 10 or 15 beats held for 10 or 15 seconds.  On average, mine usually take 45 minutes though.  He's a bit uncooperative.

  • Today mine was quick.  I had insane contractions so his heart rate would go up.  I think i was in there 25 min.  Usually mine take about an hour or more because he has no room to move and we have to wait for contractions to get the acceleration.

  • I would say mine usually take about 30-45 minutes depending on how reactive they are.  At the 8:30 appointments (since I just ate) they are usually 30 minutes.  For the 10:30am appointments it's usually 45 minutes.
