Ob/Gyn or Family Physician?

I went with a Family Practice Dr to handle my pregnancy, delivery and now my daughters care. I don't like Dr's and liked the fact that I'd just be seeing one and would get the chance to know her.

Just wondering what other people have chosen and why? Pros/cons of one over the other? Anyone choose a midwife?

  • I decided on a ob/gyn because I wanted someone more specialized.  The deciding factor for me was that family practice doctors (or atleast mine) can't do c/s.

  • For my first I chose a midwife. I loved her! It was wonderful to see the same person each time. She took so much time with me. I felt completely special.

I am considered high risk this time around so I had no choice but to change to an OB surgeon. It sucks.

  • We went with a midwife and really liked the experience.  Our clinic has four midwives, so we saw all of them at some point.  That way, we would be familiar with whoever was on call, and delivered our baby.  They are not able to do C sections, so if you would need one, a doctor would be called in.
