NBR: weekend away

My DH and I are from ND and are getting away on July 4th for a weekend in the cities. We're wondering if you have any ideas of things to do. We would love to take in a good fireworks show.

We also like live jazz and/or blues (esp. if it's on a patio with a drink). We also like theater and anything outdoors.

Do you have any suggestions?

    "the dakota" jazz bar/restaurant is on nicollet mall and there's outdoor seating.

    the Taste of Minnesota goes on during 4th of July at the capital grounds in St. Paul.  it's been a few years since i went there but they have all kinds of food,  and music, and it seriously was THE BEST fireworks show i've personally ever been to.  when i went we were right up by the capital building in front and they had music playing to the fireworks and it was awesome....  if you look up the taste of minnesota i'm sure there is website out there
