Books on tape during labor?

I've read a couple of things that suggest listening to a book on tape during labor. I've never listened to a book on tape before but I can see how sticking earphones in and zoning out to a book (as much as possible) could be nice. Is anyone planning on this? Or do any of you listen to audiobooks? Any suggestions?

    I am actually bringing American's Funniest Videos DVDs. They crack me up and if I miss some here and there due to contractions it is still all good.

    Ha! I've never known anyone to have them on DVD. Good idea with the comedy. I'm also bringing a few of my favorite movies.

    I had music playing during labor, and I honestly don't remember one second of it. I was so focused on my breathing during contractions, which were frequent, that I was "in the zone." But I was med-free.

    Yeah. I'm sure I'll be the same. I think I'll just bring a book and have DH read to me if I want. I'm planning on med-free too, so I know I won't be paying attention to much of anything at some point.

    Honestly, I don't think you need it. Bring a regular book for before things get going but once you're actually in full on labor you won't care what's going on, you'll just be focused on contractions and pushing and seeing your new baby.
