Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

NTR--I'm so pissed I could kill someone...literally.

My dad has been sick all week with a horrible cough, fever, etc.  Finally today my mom took him to an urgent care b/c she thought he had pneumonia.  They took him in right away, did tests, etc.  In the meantime they put him on Vicodin and steroids...and pump him with an IV of antibiotics.

I told my mom to make sure they don't put him on Levaquin which is the one I'm on and has HUGE warnings about combining it with pain relievers and never to mix with steroids.   They did--an entire IV's worth!!!!!!!!!   I told my mom to get off the phone with me and talk to that doctor right now.

I'm so pissed you guys....he is not in good health anyways (heart failure and disease).  And to do this???  WTF.  And one of the tests shows blood in his urine and something going on with his pancreas.

Please pray for him!!!!  I'm so nervous I could vomit.

  • What a huge error!  I hope your dad is going to be ok.

  • The doctors will have access to his medical records and any medications he's currently on. Though I'm certain you're concerned, he's in good hands with medical professionals here.

Well, they obviously didn't read them b/c they gave him medications he shouldn't have been on.  Ugh.

  • I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! I hope he gets better very soon!

If your father has a serious infection, getting antibiotics into him ASAP would be most important. Contraindications are something closely monitored by physicians and pharmacists. Relax and trust that medical professionals are treating your father. I know you are upset, but they are the doctors. Trust their judgement.

Levaquin is an antibiotic. He'll have to be monitored if he's on the steroids as well but its certainly not the first time a patient has been on both. :) Doctors do monitor patients in hospital. A lot of people are on medications in hospital that they shouldn't be at home, simply because of monitoring and the seriousness of the situation.

All the best to your father. But know he's in good hands and well monitored.

  • Also know that medications administered via IV are diluted with saline and other medications. It looks like a "whole IV' is going into him. But it isn't. Its just a fast way of administering meds. There's probably the same amount in an IV as you'd get in a pill. And you can increase/decrease IV drugs in a solution.

that's good to know.  thank you.

He's not in the hospital--he's at a hospital's urgent care facility.  They wanted him to go to the hospital but the actual hospital is a shiithole, not one of the better ones in the area, that's for sure.

  • I guess he just vomited from all the medication--so at least his body is taking care of it, I suppose.  I think he needs a 'real' hospital.  Ugh.

This is not always the case.  Medical professionals are people and people make mistakes all the time.

I'm sorry your dad is having a rough time.
