a/c on yet? what's it set to?

my 5mo sleeps great swaddled.  i had tried breaking her of it a few weeks ago doing 1 arm out, both arms out, cold turkey, etc, but i don't think she's ready.  well now i think it's too warm to be swaddled and my DH won't turn down the a/c lower than 76/78 or else he says we'll have a 400.00 electric bill this summer.  i have the ceiling fan on, but i still think it's too warm for the swaddle.  tonight i laid dd and she cried & cried (unusual for her).  i took the blanket off of her and it took her forever to fall asleep but she finally did and the blanket is just over her, but not swaddled.

she has been STTN but i wonder how she'll sleep tonight with no swaddle cold turkey like that.  what do you put your LO's to sleep in on warmer nights & what is your a/c set to?  she's not even in her nursery yet which is upstairs and the upstairs gets even warmer than downstairs. ugh!

  • I haven't turned on the AC. I have kept the sliding glass door open every day but I notice that DS is waking up from his naps a little sweaty. He's not swaddled though. I may change him into a onesie only tomorrow and see if that helps. I'm like your DH, I'm all about a low power bill.

  • Could you swaddle in a thinner blanket with just a onesie under.  I would search for a bigger, thin blanket and try that.
  • So far we haven't turned on our a/c. We have just had the windows open. I plan on doing this as long as possible. We just dress DS in light pajamas and turn his fan on low. He isn't swaddled though so he doesn't get hot. Can you just put your LO in a onsie or t-shirt and a light swaddle blanket.
  • I have the upstairs set to 76. Last summer when my son was swaddled we just put him in a diaper and used a very thin swaddling blanket. We used the Luna Lullaby, but any muslin type blanket is very thin and breathable.
  • We have been using our a/c at night for on/off depending on weather for a couple of weeks now.   We like it cold and keep it on 65F.  Otherwise, the house sits at 70F....too hot for me at over 8 months pg w/ hormones.  We can't keep windows open, we live in a new construction neighborhood with too much noise.  Besides, it's bad to do that if you have allergies, which we do.  I would imagine 78F is too hot for your baby, especially if swaddled.  Do you at least have a ceiling fan?  I'd worry about SIDS too.
