After today's u/s, I was told my pregnancy is not viable. With my 2 other m/c's, I had natural m/c's. I know the D&C is a bit painful, but if you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences, I would appreciate it.
Hi Rose, I'm so sorry you are here again. It is just devastating to go through this again.
3 natural m/c and 1 d&c here. In comparison, the things I preferred about d&C are:
*it was scheduled, so I didn't have to start m/c at an inconvenient place/time (mine all began at work)
*testing on the tissue
Things I preferred about natural ones:
*didn't bleed as long overall
*didn't have mixture of guilt and dread leading up to appointment
*there was a definite difference between knowing I was pregnant and knowing I wasn't--when the d&c was over, it still took a few days for me to feel like I wasn't pregnant anymore
the worst part was before the procedure. Driving there, being in the waiting room, prep work, anxiety, etc. All they did to prep was take some blood (although that was my doc to do additional testing) and give me an IV. They give you drugs so you don't remember anything, but I had about 1/4 of the normal dosage because meds really impact me heavily. So I do remember pretty much everything. They use anesthesia to numb your cervix, which is like a really strong pinch. I felt some sharp pokes, but it mainly felt like some general tugging that wasn't painful at all. I swear the procedure itself was less than 10 mins. If you have normal meds, I can't imagine you feel much physical pain.
the only "reaction" I had was some cramping about 48 hours later. It wasn't as bad as a natural m/c though.
I hope all goes well for you. Again, I'm so sorry you are going through this.
Rose, I'm so sorry. It isn't fair. My first 2 were natural m/c, and were horribly painful. My D & C is scheduled for tomorrow a.m. and I am terrified as well. I was about to ask a question about it here. I am glad that we will be able to test from it, and also am hoping the pain will not be as bad.
D&C was nothing. Natural is more painful. D&C I was completely asleep and when I woke up a little bit of crampinig and spotting. I was fine after that, no cramping or bleeding. Then a week later I bled 1 day and had really bad cramps for like 1hr. since then nothing.
I had my D&C yesterday. I agree with what pp's have said about the anxiety leading up to the appointment. Mine went really smoothly. I don't remember a thing. I woke up with some cramping but they gave me percocet and I was feeling much better. They also sent me home with lots of pain killers in case I needed them, but I haven't really felt much pain at home yet. Honestly, the worst pain I felt was when I first woke up, but as I said the meds they gave me helped that go away.
Rose, I'm so sorry for your loss!! In all honesty my D&E went very smoothly. Minimal cramping and bleeding after day 1. I would recommend it to anyone...its the easiest part...the emotional end is much much harder which I'm sure you already know. :::BIG HUGS::: Please keep us updated & I'll be thinking about you!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've had 2 m/c's and 2 d&c's. With both D&C's, I didn't have any pain or cramping. I was put out for both procedures though - maybe that's why? Hugs to you!
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
I am so sorry for your loss. The D&C is not painful at all in my experience. It was rough getting the IV needle, then I got drugs and "lights out." I woke up about 15 min later and it was done. What a relief. I had bleeding for a couple days, a little cramping advil took care of, and that was pretty much it physically. Emotionally, well, you know that road. I got my period on day short of 4 weeks later.
Ask your doc any questions and do not fear the procedure. It is the easiest part of the whole process.
((hugs)) all the best to you and your husband
