We got a Baby Bjorn but that's mostly for DH as he refuses to wear anything that is "girly" so now I'm looking for a baby carrier for me. My friend brought her moby wrap and showed me how to do it so I'm not as freaked out by it but if there happens to be an easier one out there that gets some raves, I may consider it instead. So which baby carrier/wrap/sling/etc. do you have and why do you love it? Thanks!
Re: Which baby carrier do you love?
I have a ring sling and I like it. I never could get C in the cradle hold, but I can wear him facing me. He is out like a light in it.
I don't really see us wearing him too often or for too long because he's so heavy...
thanks sarah!
I really don't think you can beat the Moby for the newborn stage through about four or six months when they start to get heavier.
A ring sling like D has is really good as well, but I don't recommend the cradle hold, we much preferred the tummy to tummy.
The only thing that's not so great about the ring sling is that since it's one shouldered, it can pull on you a little bit and it limits the use of that one arm that it goes across, so it's not the best for if you want to do chores. I works of course, you just kind of have to do things with 1.5 arms.
Another good grow with you option is a mei tai type carrier. They're very snuggly for the newborn stage and (depending on the brand) supportive up to a toddler. They're also easier to use than the Moby.

We have three carriers. A belle organic for my husband and I have an ergo and a mei tai. I cannot choose just one haha!
Of course, I have not worn them yet, so we will find out soon!
yes yes yes and i also have a Beco. love em all. if i had to only pick one, i guess it would be the ring for simplicity and ease. i find a carrier most necessary for quick in and out of the car, so ring is best for that.
Loved the Baby K'Tan (aka Moby for Dummies) until about 6 months. Now I love a well fitting pouch for short trips (even easier than a ring sling, so long as it fits really well) and my Beco for longer trips.
And Kreeper - don't think that just because you have a big boy you won't be able to wear him for long. Get a good, supportive carrier and it won't be a problem. Plenty of people successfully wear toddlers!

It's not the carrier - it's my back. Am I doing it wrong? We grocery shop in the sling and by the end of the store my back hurts. We do tummy to tummy and he loves it (usually). It might be better when he can actually sit on my hip in the sling, but right now his legs aren't long enough...I think.
A little late here but I have a pouch sling, a ring sling, a mei tei Babyhawk, and an Ergo.
I am a small person w/ a big heavy boy so I generally prefer two shouldered carriers. The pouch sling never worked well for me, but I think it might be a little too small. The ring sling works, we do tummy to tummy or kangaroo carry (so he can face out) but I can't wear him in it for long or my back hurts. I foresee using it more when he's ready for the hip carry. The Babyhawk and the Ergo are close to equal in my book, though if I had to choose one I think it would be the Ergo. It is simpler to get in and out of in a hurry and it distributes the weight to your hips, thus there is NO back pain.
My guess is that you're either wearing it a little high on your shoulder/neck or you just need a 2-shouldered carrier. Ollie is 21 lbs and I'm still happily carrying him in a pouch every day. But maybe you just need something more supportive. I've got a Mei Tai I don't use much anymore. You're welcome to borrow it if you want to see how it feels...
